question about implements & inclinometers

Hey gang,
Okay, I may be getting ahead of myself here....since I won't have a tractor until tomorrow....but, while I've got these questions in my head, I thought I'd ask them now. After tomorrow I may not have time to sit at the PC cause I'll hopefully be working on the tractor. Oh, btw, the tractor my questions are about is a YM 240D with 3pt and pto.
Okay, first, is there a BH that will work on my tractor...and work relatively well. I really only want to use it for trenching mostly. Is there one that any of you guys recommend and can they be found used? Anybody in northern Cal know of any used units or dealers that may sell used equiptment like this? Same question about augers and wood splitters. I'll be in the market for these attachments fairly soon after getting the tractor home.
My other question has to do with saftey. I saw a pic of a tractor a little while back....and it looked like it had a clinometer..or inclinometer, depending on which side of the tracks your from. Anyway, it didn't look anything like the cheezy units we put in our 4X4's up here and are the first thing we take our anger out on when we bust an axle or u-joint. So, does anyone use them on tractors here? Our property is steeper in some places than others, and I can't even guess at the degree of steepness or angle, I'm just no good at it. But, I'd sure feel better, I think, if I had something like that on my tractor. I'll be using the ROPS that comes with the tractor although not installed yet but just want to get your ideas on what to use if they are used at all. And also, is there way to figure what my particular tractor and me on it can safely tackle as far as tilt? I'm probably not using the correct termonolgy at all, but I am sure you guys know what I'm talkin' about....I don't wanna tip my tractor on the side, let alone roll it belly up. Any help on this stuff is appreciated.

PUCKER FACTOR works better

The downside of inclinometers is that they are just a gadget, indicating the incline...if you are almost there and then drop a wheel in a hidden hole you are GONE...

The other problem is that it seems every different model tractor tips at a different point...;)...(This is for when you acquire your SECOND tractor...:D)

Hey, thanks for the response Paul. I'd have to agree that they are indeed a gadget...but I would think that having the gauge, then keeping your eye on it when things seem a little tippy, at that point you'd know then on out where on the gauge your tractor gets tippy....and try to keep it below that point on the gauge.....and on the grade. Granted, dropping into a hole changes the whole quotient and then the pucker factor would then take over. And man, I can't afford a second tractor.

One of our members here purchased a used Kubota Hoe for his 240. He loves it. There are the smaller Kelley hoes out there too. They still make new ones, but used B15's and B20's and B600's can often be found. I used a SpeeCo Auger on my YM 1700 and it worked/fit great.

I don't use one, but check these out. Tiltmeter. R&B Manufacturing. You'll never find better business people to deal with than Rick and Brenda. They have replaced units with a "sticky ball" after years of service because they want their customer happy.

Hey Ohio....thanks for all the very useful info. So, are there specific kubota BH's that fit my tractor? Any idea? I'll have to check into the Kelley hoes as well. And checking out the tiltmeters as I type.....they have some cool looking units. Thanks again man.

The member with the Kubota Hoe is California I think.
Yep!

I have since seen the identical hoe on ebay with Yanmar logo on it. Apparently the same US builder sold it as dealer-installed equipment through both brands.

I found my hoe searching all the regional Craigslists. It was in the Chico list. And a couple more of these have appeared on craigslist and ebay, one near you somewhere on the western slope of the Sierras.

Don't bother with the Jinma (Chinese) hoe, it's too big along with other problems.
