Rain

Dennis, I am so sorry to hear of your bad turn of events. Is there any way your homeowners will help with those trees so close to the home? I understand what you are facing and know you feel overwhelmed. But you can do this. When I face something like this - like during Katrina and the tornado we had here several years ago I asked for God's help when I saw all that sad destruction and then my Dad said "look at it like eating an elephant- start with one bite at a time."Remember the rocks and the mountain mentioned in the Bible too. I still have trees in the out of the way places I had to just let rot and go back to nature from Katrina. I cut up what I could and let them just go... I have to remember that saying at least once a year when I feel defeated. If we members were closer we would sure lend a hand. Good luck and may God bless ya'll. Bordercollie

Dennis, patience and prayer will see you through. Look at the trees as a life challenge and use farmer logic as to what needs done first. Then pace yourself and have at it. With oak and hickory you have 3-4 years to get the wood cut up before it starts going bad. As you stated it is a lot easier with good equipment.hang in there buddy!

Thanks for the kind words and reinforcement of what I think and feel already........Good to know that I am not just the crazy ol guy up on the hill; but lots of others out there that have the same thought processes.........

Going on 14 years of straight and sober here and that is really where I learned about the power of God and one thing/day at a time.........Sometimes though it is folks like YOU GUYS that bring the reality back to what really matters.................THANKS GUYS....God blesses us all..............Dennis

I can sympathize with you guys. We had a storm come through last week-end. It wasn't too bad at the house, we had a crazy 10 minutes or so but it didn't do any real damage. It did bring down one big hickory at my M-I-L's farm and a HUGE oak at the local library that I look after for them.

It can be depressing when you look at it and all you can think of is, "How long is it going to take me to do this and how many of my other projects have to go on the back burner". As others have said, I just keep nibbling away at it and eventually it all gets done. Whether I work two hours or twelve hours, I like to take five minutes at the end of the day and look back at what I have achieved and think of how much further behind I would have been if I hadn't made the effort. At my age I like to take it slow and steady and I sure can't do what I used to do 10 years ago but if I now take a week to do what I used to do in 3 days, what does it matter. As long as I make the effort, it'll gets done.

Don't get down and don't give up. The Good Lord tends to look after good people so hang in there.

Let's both go sharpen our chain saws and go make some firewood!!!!

Bill....Frank....BC's, both of YOU.........lololol....smilin as the sun rises and I get going out the door..........Yes, had my pancakes, bacon, COFFEE, and nicotine gum as I stand out on the porch fightin off the BCs and the Anatolian pasture dog that has become a yard dog............Ahhhhh what a life.....

Yes, the tree trimming crew is gonna be here in a minute with their costs; but will be through with them today............THE REST is up to me, when I get to it, and if I get to it..........LOOKY HERE at least I don't have to run the heat pumps for at least 4 winters, have LOTS of wood chips for paths and erosion control, LOTS of shelter for the little critters, exercise to keep my blood sugar down, and on and on..............Gotta get out there and NOT here........thanks again BUDS.........Dennis.......God bless

..... And all is right with the world. That warm ,cozy feeling has returned to many of us involved with this and we realize just how precious basic things are and how lemons truly can be turned into lemonade ... that special look in a dog's eyes (as they lazily lay there lovingly looking at you) while you try to figure something out... or how good that coffee really is even without the spilled sugar ... how the 2nd step squeaks when stepped on just right... and how the wood fire smells as little whiffs of smoke drift across the sky with the promise of a cozy evening to look forward to . ... Take care Friends, Bordercollie

Dennis, sorry to hear about the difficulties and damage, but join with you in thanking God that nobody was injured. May you find some light at the end of the tunnel. Question for you. I am sure you would be in like dirty shirt helping your friends if things were reversed. But if for some reason you had not understood a neighbour's need, wouldn't you be disappointed if they did not ask for a hand? I am grateful when friends feel like they can ask me for help--especially if I have been too busy with my own 'stuff' to have noticed the situation. Here in the North we depend on one another a lot--kind of funny--very independent cusses, but also very aware of needing one another's help sometimes. Wish I could be there to help. (What I wouldn't give for some real hardwood to burn!)

Dennis,
First let me say, God is Good !!! And God was & is watching over ya'll. Sorry I have not posted earlier about your storm.
Let me say , you can bet, and I really believe this, if any one of the members of this forum was your neighbor, WE would be there, without hesitation. Don't let those caliber of folks that did not show up in you time of need bring you down. For I know you are a strong minded man just by reading many of the post you have written. And agree with you, for I don't know why people act the way they do. And always feel free to vent off the steam here, for there are many who do care !!!! And please, Don't ever step down to their level.
EVERY DOG HAS HIS DAY !!!!
You are lucky that ya'll didn't get any damage on your structures. Sound like it was one heck of a storm. We are just happy you and wife were blessed !!!!!

Dennis, I know it is going to be hard, but try to put those selfish people and their actions behind you. For you have God in your heart, and many friends on this forum that cares.
