Riding Back in Time

Mrs. Two Guns and myself took a ride to St. Francisville, Louisiana. Myself on the VTX, and her on her new Honda Shadow.
We Live in so much history down here. And we try to take advantage of all we can for what we got down here. Pre Civil War and antibellum homes, and so many Battlefields, old trails from back in the civil war.
Even when we have time, do some "diggin", (of course, we have permission from different property owners ) finding old civil war items. This is where the
KUBOTA RTV comes into play.. We ride the bikes looking first, then we get a plan together, then on later date, load up the RTV.
She is also a photographer, and enjoys taking pics
of history. Old cemeteries tells storys of the good, bad, evil from days gone by. Also, there are some great things to find that many
don't even know has even happened.
Here is one that is from that area we went riding our bikes to, need to read this, it will blow your mind !!!! How the south, let the north bury a special officer, and a fellow mason, during a battle !!!

... the artwork, the detail of some of these markers will just take your breathe. Some of the letters and wordings is amazing of the lives these men lived. Some, as you can see in the pictures, will have his rifle, sword, carry bags, canteen, and hat. History is there, just walk around and see !!!
This cemetary and church, is just a few hundred yards from the Mississippi River where the Ironclads of the civil war traveled. They were constantly throwing shells at this area. The church and some other old building there still have battle scars from years ago .....

Jamie, thanks for the post. Reminds me of my extended visits in 2007 and 2008 to St. Francisville for refueling outages at Riverbend. Didn't get to see as much as wanted to, but remember the great live oaks. Quite nostalgic!

Great pics and story.

Glad you took the pics during the day. Nighttime with a bit of fog and that place would be spooky to me.

That's the truth Zoom. In Ark, there is a place off of a bayou and it is swampy. A train track was nearby. There is a real old story of seeing a red light out on foggy late nights. It is told, it is an old railroad man, carrying one of the old lanterns , and looking for his head.. lost in a train wreck..

What the great part of what I see there, and have several times, is a well preserved piece of history by folks who understand and realize that the is no going back; but the values those people observed MUST be followed into the future for US to remain U.S.

Thanks for the thoughts Jamie. It's really a shame that few, even here, see or realize what is in front of them. Instead make a joke of it or tear it up..........God bless.........Dennis
