ROPS HIGH AIR INTAKE

I think that is a good idea. I was looking at that the other day and wondered about extending the intake air port. Sounds like you have got it down right. I think I may do it like that too.

I have three speakers across the top of my back screen so I couldn't put the air cleaner up there. But I could put it down lower at the bottom of the screen and that would be better than where its at. But I may try your idea first.

bordercollie has the best idea if a person couldn't fit the air box up there. Or couldn't find a air intake kit ~~~~~~~ That's what I would do, just leave the filter in it's original place and just plumb the intake flex tube where ever you felt it should be ...... They Always said two heads were better than one !!!!

Hey bodercollie, that's almost exactly what I'd been planning on doing. I couldn't see any sense in moving the whole air cleaner up high since the air intake location is the key issue.

The only extra thing I was planning on doing was to add a pre-cleaner like a Donaldson Topspin. They're self cleaning and theyknock out 85% of the dirt and contaminents before the main filter. They also quiet down the intake howl. I have to figure the RTV's CFM air requirement so that I can size the precleaner correctly. Those little engines can't suck too much air.

(There's one safety issue for you to check if you have little kids ride with you. Make sure that they can't look into the air intake or get their hands or body in front of the intake. It's pretty gross but you loose an eye due to the suction. Kids also have soft thin skin and it is possible that they can suffer tragic intake suction injuries. It has happened. It sounds like your intake opening is tucked away and also that you have other openings in the intake system to help break any suction entrapment. These little diesels will starve out almost imediately without air but sometimes even that is too late.)

Yes, it is safely up under the roof next to the mesh with a curve and slant to it . .sort of like a muffler's pipe on a big truck. I need all of my vision open so nothing is obscured this way.No worry about rain either with it being under the roofs edge . Black paint makes it hard to see. Thanks, Bordercollie[&]

OK, everyone likes these things so I'm thinking of getting one.

Can one of you that has one installed post a couple pics for me?

Here's my issues.
Where that plastic cowling at the rear of the cab (where all the warning labels are located) is only about 1/4" from my bed. I need a pic from the right side of the RTV looking in to tell me if the new duct work sticks out farther than the current plastic cowling.

I have lights and speakers mounted to the rear-right ROPS. Can someone take pics (and measurements would be great) of the intake tube as it relates to that vertical ROPS bar? Looking at the first pic 2-guns posted, it appears to be 1) inside the ROPS tube and 2) a steel pipe going up to the elbow. I need to know what I'd need to change to get this tube in place. How far towards the rear of the ROPS bar does the new tube go? How far inside the ROPS is the tube?

Also, did someone mention there's 2 different versions? Do they have different locations for the vent tube to from the air filter to the engine?

The intake pipe goes into a indention already cut out on your plastic crowl piece. Think it was formed like that from the factory just for the ROPS intake kit. Or should I say, mine has it. I don't know what year model you have, but every one I've seen has that little cut out space that is right beside the ROPS bar going up on the right.

Ok bczoom,

Just took a look at your pic, looks like your unit doesn't have a cut out spot for the ROPS High Intake Kit, that that's only from what I can see ..... But that is not a problem, all you have to do is cut you a spot out with a Dremel Tool, clean & shape it up, and the pipe will fit snug right beside the ROPS pipe. Since you have yourhome made wooden bed, Might want to trim out on it to, if needs be ~~~~ But I really think you will not have any problems with the kit being installed on your unit !

Thanks for the pics 2-guns.

Y'all talked me into getting one so I ordered it yesterday. It'll be here sometime this week. I figure I'll have to change some hoses but I'll figure something out...

I knew it was coming for sure, didn't know exactly when !!!! Great Investment !!!! And I know your RTV is going to appreciate it very much ~~~ By the way, the Sirius radio's came in the UPS shipment today. As soon as I can, going to call Terry at the audioallies and let him tell me what Marine radio & speakers I should purchase for the RTV ~~~~~

I have been working on this project for a while now..... I will have a few pictures up for everyone to see on Wednesday if possible. I have successfully movod the entire air box up, similar to the Kubota design (for very little effort and money). Simply put, I have found a 1.5" flexible rubber hose that fits our intake that you can use all the way to the top in one piece. The only cost is the hose and large wire ties. You use the existing air box! Anyway, it turned out great. I will get some pictures posted. This is a simple and clean looking do it yourself job.

Knoxville,

Please do post pics.

I still haven't received my new air intake but you just put an idea in my mind.

Hmmm, if the new air box is the same as the old (but obviously they have different plumbing), they would look identical. I'm now wondering if I should hook up 2 of them in parallel. Not sure if I'd put both on one side of the ROPS or put 1 on each side but having both could increase air flow...

Sorry group. I have tried to upload the pics of my do it yourself high mount air filter but am having trouble. The site is telling me that the pics are too large. Any ideas?

Sure... make them smaller. [:P]

Just about every photo software package has a resize option. In some packages (e.g. MS Paint, it's called Stretch/Skew).

When in the resize option of the software, depending on the software, you change it based on a percentage or the output size.

Once resized, click File, Save As. I then point to the same directory and using the same file name, I append a "s" or something to the end. This leaves the original alone and gives me a 2nd version (and to me, the "s" on the end denotes it's the small version).

If you're having trouble or want me to do it for you, just e-mail me the pics and I'll take care of it for you.

One solid piece from the engine to the top.... You may notice that I doubled one small piece to avoid any rubbing.

Now that's what I call, using your thinking hat ...... I like that !!!!

What kind of frame do you have over the back of your cab ? The one with the " eye " lights on it. Is that something you fabricated for some special purpose ?

The RTV 1100 High position air flow is completly different from the 900's. I've also included pictures ot the 1100' tilt up rear screen. Also had to through in pictures of ORANGE JUICE & ORANGE CRUSH there fore DOUBLE ORANGE .
