RTV 900 won't respond switch maybe?

Hello,

Just jointed and hoping for a confirmation of my little problem.

We have had a lot of rain with the RTV sitting out unused for the past week.

Tried to start today zip seems no juice to gauges, lights or starter attached a new battery same situation -- thought I'd ask before going through multi-test that it might be just at the switch since no juice to anything when turned on.

If so easy solution if not headaches appreciate any input --

Thanks

Hi Tom, Welcome. I would check the ground on the body of the RTV and make sure it is not corroded and the fuses to see if they got wet.According to the workshop manual , there is a" slow blow fuse " that if blown will have your symptoms. Look on page 39 of your units general manual.- (at least in my manual thats the page.) I would also clean the battery cables and the terminals of the battery. The key switches are around $45.So try to eliminate every thing you can before buying one- unless it is stiff and hard to work anyway. I had one on my unit that would crank itself without turning the key. I replaced it.bordercollie

.... I agree with bordercollie

.... is your hour meter clicking ?
.... is there any noise like a silinoid or anything else when you turn key ?
.... have you tried jump starting it ?

Thanks folks for the run down and helpful direction -- yes I have jumped no go, then switched to a full charged battery no go --
No sounds from solenoid or glow plug, no lights, no horn, when switch is in the on position --
I"ll check out the fuse box just might have gotten soaked.
Appears the direction is to assume that something has interrupted the entire electrical system the fuse area is a good idea to start with --
I shall return --LOL famous last words --- Tom at the Tree Farm

Thanks for the help folks very much appreciated. As it turns out two causes a smashed wire coming from the battery positive terminal which shorted and consequently has I believe but the finishing touch on this battery.

After some more fooling and with the volt meter showing the battery 12.3 v after a quick charge I ran a load test the battery failed it twice -- repaired the wire and ordered a new battery -- Bottom line did get it started. Again thanks -- Tom at the Tree Farm

smashed wire coming from the battery positive terminal w

That is got me thinking, what smashed the wire.

And might want to look into getting yourself a real good battery...... like a OPTIMA ...

Was told by anothe member that the Optima battery Type 34/78. Fits very nicely in the original battery tray, allows the original hold down strap to be used and has the battery posts at the right end of the battery.

Thanks TG you must be a mind reader -- that is what I ordered not 3 hours ago from Amazon -- I have used Optima batteries since 1999 in our boats both blue top and dual yellows as "starter" and dedicated "house" batteries never a problem. Last on the boats about 3 to 5 years which was the longest one right now have 3 off them --

I might add from what I have read in some boating forums guess if I had keep them on a trickle charger all winter would have even lasted longer -- but would have needed at least a 4 bank charger most years -- just to lazy I guess.

The wire group that branches off was sort of crushed when I bought this 900 two years ago never paid much attention and it was usually inside, but for the past two weeks it camped out unused with heavy rains --

That is Great ....

We keep EVERYTHING around here on a Battery Tender Jr. From Jeeps, Zero Turn mowers, boats, motorcycles etc .. etc .... .
They don't cost nothing and you can buy them single or bye the boat loads. I've purchased most of mine off ebay with free shipping ....
If it is going to sit up for over five or so days, it gets hooked up. Our RTV is now hooked up on
it right now as we peck.

************* Let me make this statement.

You need a Float Charger, Not a Trickle charger.......
In time, a Trickle charger will ruin a battery. It NEVER turns off >>>>

A Float charger turns itself off when fully charged, or reaches a certain level !!!!!

Where do you call home ?

I use battery tenders for our two tractors but the boats are at a marina and would have to bring the batteries home since in winter storage no electric hook up --

We are in NW NJ not far from the Delaware though the baots are keep down in South Jersey off the Delaware Bay -- close to Cape May --

How about yourself where do you hang your hat?
