RTV Hood Molding

TWO GUNS

Senior Member
All RTV hoods have a little " slack " in them, after closing that is . Been since new, wife been hearing a very faint bumping noise during the traveling on the edge of rougher agri fields. I myself, could not hear it at all ( ears don't work good ) ....
After raising my hood, seen were the hood been bumping the bottom part some. Went to Wal-Mart and purchased some door molding. This molding comes in a " 2 pack " . Installed on hood edging. On the cruves, warmed them up with a heat gun, ( hair dryer will do fine ) , and molded it to the contour of the hood.
Then, after that being done. Next ride to take a look the river. Wife noticed that the faint bumping noise was gone. Must have been the hood a " rattling away " . Cost was under three or four dollars. This will also save hood from rubbing a hole in the bottom part in time .....

Update :
The two sections don't cover the whole hood, so made another run to Wal-Mart and purchased second package of protectors. As you seen on the previous pic, each piece on each end only went so far across the front. So I decided to put a third piece in the middle to complete the job. The RTV didn't deserve a half axx job. So now, it looks & feels complete. The third piece across the front, really didn't serve a purpose but for looks.

Dang it! I would have to clean mine to put something like that on it. It is sitting with lumber and tools in it from building the greenhouse right now.

Muleman. The greenhouse is coming along great. Are you still going to use pex and your wood furnace to heat the water to help keep it warm? Bordercollie

Yes I am. I have half of it installed now and am adding another 300 ft. tomorrow. Ditch to the boiler and the good underground pipe will complete the heat supply system. I got the last of the barn siding on yesterday in between rain showers. Hope to be building plant shelves by the weekend.

Bordercollie, here are some more pics of the greenhouse almost ready for heat and plants. Had a half day of down time to get my eye checked. While I was nailing the siding on a piece of galvanized chipped off a nail and hit me in the eye. I had a major bloodshot eye that scared the nurse I am married to as well the ones at the hospital when I went for my tests Tuesday. My family doc sent me off to see an eye specialist and till he got done with the drops I can hardly see right. Good news is it is only bruised so back to work on the pex. Tomorrow I hope to get the underground pipe in and hooked up to the boiler. Wife got the first plugs of wave petunias today so I have to get moving to have heat on by the weekend.
