RTV rear half shaft removal

Group;

I have an RTV 900 with approximately 260 hours on it. Both of the inner universal joints on the rear axel need replacing. I went so far as to disconnect the tube axel from the leaf springs, but still couldn't figure out how to remove the half shafts. Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

OK, it sounds like you're 98% there since you've already dropped the tube axle and such.

Did you already remove the boot bands (both sides).

It sounds like the last step is for you to remove the bearing cover mounting screw. Once removed, the shaft should slide back out. The bearing cover is right where the shaft meets the tranny case on top of the shaft.

Replace the boot bands when you re-install.

On re-install, here's the tighting torques.
The bearing cover screws should be 13.3 - 15.5 ft-lbs
The leaf spring mounting bolt/nut should be 55.3 - 66.4 ft-lbs

Ok, I'm not sure how far you along you are, so I'll describe the methods I use.

First, We have a cradle for the axle assembly, but you can do this with a friend, or alone, its just a bit harder with one person. If you have the four nuts holding the axle to the leaf springs undone, the axle assembly should be hanging on the halfshafts. Move one side or the other toward the rear of the machine, and the halfshaft spline will seperate. Once one side is unconnected, the other falls away.

The rest of it is as BC says. Let us know if you have any questions.
