RTV running poorly

The last couple of times out my RTV starts out alright but then after a little bit kinda acts like it is starving for fuel or the engine shut off. When I let up on the accelerator it clears up and then will run fine for a while and then may or may not do the same thing again. I do not want to run it in that condition and wonder if anyone has any ideas. I have about 150 hours on the machine and recently changed the hydraulic oil and filters, engine oil and filters, checked the air filter and cleaned the spark arrester.

I'd start with replacing the fuel filter.
If dirty or clogging up, it could cause those symptoms.

I too vote for changing the fuel filter and also the air filter. At 150 hours, it makes sense that one or both need attention. Being a diesel, you can bet that if it's getting enough fuel and air it will run just fine.

I finally got around to checking the fuel filter and when I removed it, there was very little fuel flow. I put some pressure on the tank and a small twig came out and the problem was resolved. I thought I was being careful when refueling but will be more so in the future.

Mine has about 63 hrs. on it and I noticed just lately that it has lost about 5 mph on top end speed with it in two wheel drive. I can't think of anything I could of done to cause it. Idid the 50 hr. service on it back in January but did not change the fuel filter. I put a diesel additive to it during the winter. Any ideas?

You have a stick in your fuel line? [:D] Just kidding...

Rontuski - Glad your's is all better again.

Chandler - Did you use UDT or SUDT or ??? when you did your service?

I know we've been having a cold spell lately. What was the temp outside and was the RTV fully warmed up (enough to get the tranny fluid plenty warm) when you did your test? I ask because when it's cold, it takes awhile for the tranny to warm up completely. You'll experience that 5 MPH loss until it's all warmed up.

Yes, I used the SUDT fluid in the transmission. You know, I happened to think about the temp tooand wondered if that might be a factor the last time I tried it out. I drove it around and tried to get it up to normal temp, but it might have lacked a little. It's supposed to warm up some this week and I'll try to get it out again. I got a fuel filterfrom the dealership today and will put it on before I drive it again.

Also, I asked the dealer about the fuel tank cap. I read where some people had trouble with theirs leaking out when the tank is half full or more. Well, mine has been leaking too. He said that they would get me the new cap and if that didn't work they may have to change out the tank. He said something about the threads weren't deep enough on the spout where the cap screws on.

Don't forget to clean (or get rid of) the spark arrestor. Mine didn't run any faster but it was much more responsive after removing it.

As Chandler mentioned about the tank and cap, our tank as well as the cap was replaced for the reasons mentioned. Since we had the tank and cap replace we have been good to go! I LOVE THIS SITE!!!

That tranny is one big hunka-chunk of steel it takes a looonnnnnggggg time to get it up to temp when it's cold. Heck, if it wasn't for summer, I'd think my temp gauge doesn't work since I don't believe I've ever seen it register anything in the winter. Let's see what warmer temps offer.

Okay, but I'm going by what it would do back in December around Christmas when I had it out and the weather was similar to what it is now. It just has me puzzled as to whats going on.

Ahhhh, but back in December that big ole hunka-chunk of tranny steel was probably still warm from last summer. Just kidding...
Run it for awhile and see if you notice anything. Fresh fuel, maybe the new fuel filter...

Yeah, the fuel has been in there all winter. It is at half a tank. I will get some fresh diesel (gold) fuel and add to it. And then back to the fuel cap spillage problem![*-)]

Got a new fuel tank cap from my dealer and put it on. No leaks as yet. It does have a rubber gasket on it. Will keep a watch on it for a while.
