RTV Starter ?

Re: RTV Starter ?

UPDATE!!!!! Good news guys. I had to call KUBOTA Canada and stir the pot. They talked to the dealer and agreed to supply a new starter. However, they wanted to make it clear that they were doing this on good faith as they do not really feel responsible as the existing starter is working. They will supply the new starter but not pay for the labor to install it! BIG DEAL! I think it is kind of unbelievable but I am happy that I am getting a new starter. In hind sight I did a number of recent water crossings going to the hunt camp. There is a beaver pond that flooded a trail which caused the water to be around 2 feet deep. Water would run across the floor boards. You had to lift your feet. I think we as a group collectively have identified that there is definitely a starter problem that certainly appears to be moisture related. It would be prudent to examine your starter for any possible areas of water penetration. Especially where the wires enter it. Caulk with silicone. And yes my American friends, I agree that the Canadian business establishment definitely needs a tune up when it comes to customer service. I have always felt that way after returning from many trips to the US.

Re: RTV Starter ?

I am glad to hear things are working out for you in getting another starter. In apromo I have seen for the RTV ,they showed it splashing thru a creek bed of water. It seems to be implied that it can be used that way.... Oh well, I guess we know now...But I still think a starter that only works part time isn't representative of what the Kubota warranty should stand for.... but they are a simple install {just undo the battery}so go for it.. Bordercollie

Re: RTV Starter ?

Glad to hear you got the started.

Are you going to install it yourself? As I recall, it's an easy swap out.

Re: RTV Starter ?

Update; KUBOTA replaced the starter. The service guy told me he received advice from KUBOTA to apply silicone between the starter and the engine block. I guess they do not do this at the factory. Go figure. Maybe now they will. They also attached a note to my invoice that states; DO NOT GO THROUGH WATER HIGHER THAN 1/2 WAY UP THE WHEELS OR YOU WILL DAMAGE THE MACHINE. So I guess I can not do the submarine thing anymore. Anyhow, it was minus 8 farenheit this morning and she started right up. Just plowed snow with her for an hour. You all may want to apply silicone between your starter and engine block if you ever remove the starter.
