Hey Gus. I have just bought a RTV 900 and it has lost most of its drive especially uphill and also when you lift your foot off accelerator the rear wheels lock up.
Any ideas ??

as far as the wheels locking up, either buy a coast valve or learn to feather the accelerator pedal. Feathering saves your brake pads....... as far as power you might need to replace the hydraulic pistons on the pump and the drive side of the hydrostat. Hopefully Aurthuritus will weigh in he is the man when it comes to the hydrostat..

On those old models there was a small shock absorber attached to the hst throttle cable that was supposed to let the linkage return slowly. Unfortunately this will either get sloppy and the wheels will stop suddenly throwing you through the window. There are two methods for cure. Either develop a habit of releasing the peddle very slowly or get a coast valve that relieve the pressure a little cushioning the stop.
As for your other symptoms and before you dig into the hast try getting rid of the spark arrestor on the end of the exhaust pipe. Check your high idle rpm and adjust to 3800 rpm. And of course replace the hst and transmission oil with super udt and oem filters. Report back

On the older RTV's, there's an aux pump. When climbing, if it starts to bog down, let OFF the go-pedal to about the 1/2 way point. The aux pump will kick in and give you more power but you will lose some speed.
