RTV1100C water leaking from roof into gas tank and engine compartment

Hi All,
I live in Michigan and I've owned this 1100C for about 7 years and it seems like every winter when it gets really cold I have issues with ice in my fuel. I've tried just about everything but it still happens. Today, I went out to plow some snow and when I started it, the alternator belt started smoking and quickly broke. Upon further inspection, water had leaked down into the engine compartment onto the alternator and froze it into place. There was literally ice all down through the alternator. I was able to get it into a warm place and quickly realized the snow on the roof was melting and running down the back of the cab and collecting on the gas cap and in the engine compartment. I'm thinking some sort of "custom solution" is needed to divert this water away from the gas tank and engine. Has anyone run into this before and can offer a solution? Also, is there a solution to getting out the water that is probably already in the gas tank now? Thanks in advance!

Sorry I have no idea how to correct your problem. I own a Kubota L5030 tractor and use Orange Tractor Talks when I need help. Have you posted your question there also? Like this one it's a great forum.

1. You'll have to drain the tank if it is a lot of water, refill and treat the new fuel.
***Try a different fuel supplier if you can. Years ago, we had a school bus freeze up like this. Turned out that the gas station had water in their fuel tanks.
2. Change your fuel filter.
2. Clean the snow off when you are done plowing.
3. How are you getting that much ice on the alternator AND the fuel cap? The are on opposite sides of the machine.

Is this an "X" model or just the 1100? The newer X models have this debris shield to keep leaves and hay out of the alternator area. Should work good for snow too.

Get some powerservice diesel additive and treat your gas tank according to directions. Drain the sediment bowl and replace fuel filter. Put fresh diesel in your gas tank. There is a red silicone sheild that kubota owes you under a recall that should protect your alternator and park your machine somewhere else or brush the snow off

I have installed a continuous baffle across the top of the dump bed to prevent gravel and wood chips from dropping down into the engine area. It also prevents snow and ice from collecting between the dump body and cab. It has worked extremely well for many years.
