RTV900 Rear Fender extensions

Didn't know for sure what to title this thread.

The other day my 6 year old Granddaughter was in the shop. She was looking at the RTV. With a wrinkled nose she pointed at those rubber rear fender extension things and said "what's that?".

Okay, I can't be uncool in my Granddaughter's eyes. So something has to be done. :)

I removed the front "rubber flaps". Then tried to design something that would be effective, durable and fit the look of the rear fender guards. This is what I came up with.

Built them out of some scrap sheet metal I had lying around. Used 1.25" square tube for the vertical brackets. 3/4" square tube for the fender brackets.

Took some head scratching to get them to be effective and still not be in the way when the bed is raised/lowered. Think I got it, but time in the mud will tell.

Installed with 2 5/16" bolts. Drilled thru the frame rails, washers and nuts on the back. Bull strong. I like that.

Bed up.

Bed down. Had to leave a gap so the plastic fenders didn't hook on them when moving the bed. With the upper lip of the new fenders slightly above the plastic fender ends no mud will splatter thru the crack. Unless you are spinning in reverse. Which is impossible with the slowness of reverse gear in the RTV. :)

Now gotta figure out the back. They will be much more complex because of the radial action of the bed lifting and lowering.......

Thanks guys.

I'm my own worst critic. I think they are very functional and durable. I just don't quite like the look.

Anyway, this morning I fabbed some for the rear. Bolted them directly to the plastic fenders like the rubber ones were. I don't think they will need any further bracing. But I'll test them for awhile and see.

Again, there's just something not quite right about the look. Any suggestions will be received warmly. :)

Well, I think they are fine... but if you want suggestions...
How about splitting a chunk of large diameter exhaust pipe, like every Dodge pickup owner has to install... and making the outside edges of the things rounded like the original plastic fender?

I'd write the date smaller on the battery. ;) :)

Call me lazy or cheap but if/when I go to replace the fenders, I was just going to run down to tractor supply and buy a couple.

Ken, this Winter when I get shop fever I think I'll try to build a complete fender replacement. In the meantime I'll explore options to reproduce the factory shape.

I was just a bit lazy. :(

I don't think I'd be able to find one that matches the shape. Next time I'm in the local farm supply store I'll check.

Thanks guys.

No where near as lazy as I am. I am worn out from looking at what you made! :respect:

I think those fenders would really help the looks of the RTV, but I haven't found any that are wide enough, they all seem to be 8" wide and that won't cover the tires. Still watching for a solution. I'd bet that Peanut could take 4 of them and rip them down and weld up a pair that would be wide enough. I like the way the fenders on the 1100 are mounted to the frame too.

Yeah, I looked that over too. If I were totally replacing them, I'd go with frame mounted. Problem is at the rear. They'd hafta be a lot closer to the tire so the bed could dump without hitting them. Doable though.

Hey!!!!! I just now noticed that remark!!!! :)
Battery was on the machine when I bought it used, but thank you for noticing!!!

Yeah,,,,, I wouldn't consider writing a date on my battery with a Sharpie. When it's bad, it's bad.... :)
