RTV900 Tires

I'm new to the forum and I'm trying to help my Dad pick some new tires for the Kubota. It's a 2008 RTV900 with 900 hours. The stock tires are basically slicks at this point.

Its mainly used on a 300 acre cattle/horse farm and I occasionally use it for hunting tasks. Hauling hay, pulling hay wagons, hanging stands, general trail riding with some muddy uphills. Elevation of about 1400'. We are considering the ITP Mud Lite tires. Front 26x10x12 back 26x12x12. Would this be a good setup? Any reason to go with the 26x9x12 on the front? Any other recommendations?

Before I recommend anything, can you tell us a bit?

What tires did your Dad have on it? How was the performance? Did they get you around at near 100% or did you find yourself getting stuck?

Any particular reason you're going with 26" instead of the standard 25"? Going oversize can cause some rubbing issues, particularly in the front.
 
It's had the stock (worksite I think) tires on it. It got around fine in the bottoms and good in the summer. Those tires really struggled when going up wet hills (not muddy just wet grass/leaves) especially in the woods (fall/winter/spring). I don't think any other off road vehicle would have had trouble. We don't want a strictly mud tire, but I want to be able to go up slightly wet moderately steep grades.

I was reading about rubbing issues and didn't see that anyone had issues with the 26" tires. That's why is was wondering if the 9" tire would be better than the 10" tire in the front. We were looking at the 26" tires to gain a little ground clearance in the woods. Ruts/stumps ect.

From what others have said, you'll be happy with the Mud Lite tires.

For the front, I'm pretty sure the 26x10x12 will work without rubbing but if you're doing a lot of hard turns (taking the steering all the way to the limit), I'd probably go with the 26x9x12.

For the rear, I don't know if I'd go with the 26x12x12. As I recall, you can safely go 1" on the width either direction from the OEM rim. That means you could go 26x11x12 but I don't know if there's a tire that size in the Mud Lite's. If not available in that size, I'd stick with 26x10x12.

Once you have them on, consider adding some Slime to each tire. That will take care of any small leaks or holes you may get.
 
i have some mud lites on my rhino they do bite good but they are soft and will probably wear out pretty fast mine do well atleast the fronts do i am still on my first set for the rear but on my second set in the front.sinse you use it to pull and hunt i would recomend the 589's they are made out of the hardest rubber you can find in a tire and will pull you through just about anything just as long as they have something to grab onto.i had them on my gator hpx and they lasted forever. like zoom said 9's in the front and 11's in the rear if you wanna go wider i think it would be best to get aftermarket rims to offset the tire a bit but i really wouldn't go any higher than a 26". if you do decide to go with the mudlites go with the mudlite xl's they have a deeper lug that the regular mudlites but for long lasting and great traction go with the 589's
 
Thanks for the advice guys. I just thought the 589s would be too aggressive. It looks like there are many people here that are really happy with them. I might take a closer look at them.

I agree with zoom ....
and really believe the Mud Lites would serve your purpose well.

Sticking with the OEM sizes, in my opinion, will do everything you
ask your RTV to do.

P.S.
Might wouldn't hurt to get yourself a good set of Boot Savers.


BUT, don't go over 26" tall....

the mudlites are some good tires i didn't look up the prices on what they sell for latly if you go with the mudlites go with the xl's the mudlites are close to the same tread as the 589's and will get you through alot of mud they pull good too thier weaknesses are soft rubber and they are rounded tires unlike the 589's that are more flat and hard rubber the 589's give you more of a footprint when the going gets rough. if you drive on rocks or shell roads skip the mudlites but if you stay offroad all the time the mudlite xl's will do you good. it is a hard choice to make between both tires because both will do a very good job off road. the mudlites will give you a smoother ride on hard ground because the tread pattern come to a point in the middle unlike the 589's that have their tread spaced out a bit more in the middle so you tend to get a rougher ride at slower speeds after you pickup a bit of speed the 589's smooth out. i now run mudlites on my rhino for 80%of my riding and have outlaws for the rough stuff. the only reason i went with mudlites as they was cheaper and they road smoother on the trails i went with the outlaws because well if you seen an outlaw tire and see where i live you would understand.i don't recomend the outlaws because they really ain't a good tire for everyday and for the price of them you won't wanna use them everyday. plus out of all the tires they make for atv's/utv's the outlaws have the softest rubber and will wear very fast in everyday use. so the bottom line is how much you wanna spend. you won't regret buy the mudlites or the 589's
