Safety support

The safety support on my RTV900 came off the frame and ended up getting wedged between the frame and the left rear tire. I was going down a bumpy desert road at the time and smelled burning rubber. I stopped the vehicle and discovered the problem. The support abraded the inside of the tire pretty good. Has this happened to anyone?

Never heard of something like that. Is there anyway you can post a picture ?

Thanks,

Yes, and it is stowed on the frame behind the driver's side. It's beyong me how it came loose. I'll see if I can take a picture of it. I'm also going to take the machine to the dealer tomorrow.

Who uses the dump bed and the saftey support besides you? If someone else used it maybe it was not put back in place properly.

I have never used the safety support; in fact, I didn't even know it was there. I had the vehicle in for service a few months ago. It would be tough to prove someone else put it back incorrectly.

This has happened to us, we found the safety support in the road. I will need to check the inner side wall of the tire to see if there is any damage. I just picked it up out of the road and did not even look any further because I also never use it.

Normally when I smell burning rubber, it's because the RTV is doing burnouts. [:D]

As I recall, there's a part of the bracket that can be pushed in to secure itself more tightly to the frame. I'd propose you pinch that in or wrap some electric tape around the frame to make the safety support stick more securely.

BTW - I've never had mine bounce off.

I am not sure if I have one on my RTV900. Anyone have a picture of what it looks like? I have the hydraulic dump so maybe it does not come with the support. Is it used to support the bed when it is raised?

Yes, that's exactly what it's used for.

I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but with the bed down I don't see how this support can come off the rail. There is also a braided stainless steel cable attached to the support, the other end of which is looped around the pipe aft of the hydraulic ram. Upon further inspection, the abrasion on the tire doesn't look that bad. I put the support back on and lock-wired it to the rail.

I use that support bracket everytime that I rasied the bed to service the engine. Its there to protect me and I use it.

This must be on a hydro-bed style. For I don't have a hydraulic tilt bed, mine is manual., and it has a support bar that locks in place when lifted. And when it's let down, there is no way for that bar to go anywhere. For some reason, I cannot see really what come loose on your machine. Please post a picture of what we are talking about. And the part about a wire-cable attached, don't see one here >>>>>>

All it amounts to is a "U" type channel that is about a half inch shorter than the extended rod on the hyd cyl for the dump bed. When not in use it sits over the frame rail under the box/bed on the drivers side and behind the driver. It is further secured by a piece of SS cable. I don't see how is could fall out with the box down. When it is in use is when the box is up. I just pull it off the frame rail and place it around the hyd cyl rod,it prevents the box from being able to be lower accidently. Pinning whoever might be working on the engine.

Deerlope,

Thanks for the reply, I see now what ya'll are talking about. We have them on many pieces of equipment that has the hydraulic cylinders. ( Booms, Combine headers, etc, etc . ) Great safety item !!!!

That's what had me confused !!! Our RTV don't have the hydraulic cylinder on the bed, that's why I didn't know !!!!

Again, Thanks >>>>>>

Maybe somehow it got pulled off by the bed if you raised it lately. Or maybe the stick monstersnagged that stainless keeper cable if you were driving with the bed raised to spread material. The sticks seem to snag everything else...

It has a tension clip attached to it to keep it from rattling aganist the frame rail. There is no way a stick could catch it and pull it out with the bed down. He said that he just had it at his dealers for something.

dealer monster >>>> maybe >>>

Like they have always said, nobody will take care of your equipment like you will !!!!

Yeah, I kinda think that's what happened. Like I said, I have it lock-wired to the frame. When I need it, I'll just cut the wire and use the support.
