Snow Chains on all 4 tires?

I am getting more neighbors wanting me to snow plow for them. I am thinking of getting some of those diamond shaped skidder type snow chains for my RTV 1100. Can I put snow chains on ALL 4 tires? I am nervous that this might damage something on the RTV. Last year I used regular chains on the rear only.

Even if you can you will not want to, with the diamond studded chains on my RTV 500 traction isn't an issue regardless of snow depth. If you put something that bites like that on the front not only will it put heavy load on your front end it will also make turning difficult.
 
You can make your own set of chains with some 1\4'' bolts and some small chain, i made a set to fit on my Grasshopper to blow snow and i don't fear getting stuck now.
 
Are screw in studs an option for you?

I bought something like these.

1000 studs for the price of a set of chains.

Although I bought them, I still haven't had the need for them (or chains) with the tires I'm using.

I would rather stay away from the screw in studs. I will use the old chains I have or go with the log skidder type chains that are supposed to have more contact with the ground.

I went with the super diamond studded chains made by ICC last winter and they were awesome...night and day traction difference.

RTV Snow Chains

Because I have the turf tires for most of the season (which are useless on the snow/mud) I bit the bullet and bought another set of knobby tires, mounted them on rims, and change seasonally.

It's been awhile but I believe they were about $80. I only run them on the rear and they are a great chain. I plowed in 2WD most of the time after I got them last year.

I will say chain prices seem to go up every dang year too. I wanted ice chains for my International 2544 the last 3 yrs, first year I checked they were $389 and sold out....checked again in the fall the next year, the price had gone up to $499 and they were sold out....last year I checked again and the price was $700ish and they finally had them in stock. I didn't like paying it but I did just because I knew they'd be sold out quickly.:pat: It sucks paying so much but dang they work nice that after you get past the sticker shock you'll feel you made a good investment. :a1:
 
Thanks Mark.Sibole! I posted this last year, however I stalled on buying new chains by using some old chain I cobbled together. Well I lost chain off of one tire, so a good excuse to finally order the diamond patterned chains. Thanks Mark, it was simple to order via the web site you listed above. Thanks again Mark!
 
I have plowed snow with my 1100 with the atv tires with no problems in the last 4 years.
Chains are hard on concrete and the machine.
With 4 wheel drive and the lock up rear diff what else you need?

Tire chains are great on ice but I have the grim reapers on my 900 and in snow you cant beat them.I only need chains once in a great while if we get a bad ice storm here or a good thaw and then a hard refreeze.
