The tags provide a second way to browse posts about a topic. For instance, if we (As a group) wanted to make a series of threads or posts on bed rails into a topical group you could tag them all with "RTV900 Bed Rails" and then pull up that group of posts using that tag. Its a new concept thats being used alot with blogs we can't turn it off.

OK, you're talking about the "Edit Tags" that's at the bottom of every post?

It comes with the software but I don't think it's too applicable to this forum.

As I understand it, you can use the "Edit Tags" to apply different search terms to a post that doesn't contain the word you would be searching for.

E.g. Let's say someone gets a new OEM accessory for their RTV but in the post, only mention it by its part number (V####). You could add an "Edit Tag" and in that tag, give it the text description. This post would then show up when someone does a search by its description. It can also be used when a typo of an important word is done. If someone were to incorrectly type something in a post but it was a key word that may be beneficial in a future search, you use the Edit Tag to put in the correct spelling so again, it'll be found in future searches.

I was just going by what the software said.

From their documentation page:

http://docs.communityserver.org/wiki/page.aspx/61/tags/

"A tag is a (relevant) keyword or term associated with a piece of
information (like a picture, article, or video clip) and enables
keyword-based classification. For example, if blog is used by an
organization to record meeting notes the relevant tags may be:
Marketing, Meeting, FY08 Planning. Readers can then browse content
using these tags to filter relevant information."

Edit Tags

To Edit a tag simple click the tag name in the grid or the "Edit" button:

This opens the Tag Editor with the current tag information loaded:

The most common use for editing tags will be to correct misspellings or to provide a better tag name.
