Spark arrestor

Easy as pie. Just look at the end of the muffler and remove the bolts there. the tail pipe and spark arrrestor will just pull out as one piece.. I just got a hack saw after the screened arrestor and replaced the tail pipe with the same bolts. Some members and I put anti seize compound on the threads . You can at least take the bolts out and look at 'em. It is made that way so you can clean it but most of us just cut it off. bordercollie :doggy:

spray them with penetrating oil and get it warm before you take it off or attempt to take it off,ive broken a few bolts off in the past. take your allen socket and tap it into the bolt before you try to take it off..

Thanks everyone. I did not think it was going to be difficult, just thought I would ask before starting to remove the arrestor.

Another one to remove and use anti seize on is the muffler drain plug, on the bottom take it out and lube it up or it might never come out later.

My '05 had that muffler clean out plug but the '11 doesn't- at least mine doesn't. It was a good feature too ,bad they done away with it on the new design. bordercollie

What's to drain inside a muffler? After 10-15 (or thereabouts) minutes of running, the muffler will be sufficiently hot that any water condensation will be passed out as steam. There shouldn't be water in a muffler, unless a water hose got aimed the wrong way.

I've always wondered that myself on equipment.

Most know, I have run mine ( and others also ) in water so deep, that we would
be sitting in water. And of course, the muffler would be " bla-bla-bla bubbling"
the exhaust out. Never had ANY water get into the muffler.

......( Thank God for High Rise )

The drain / plug in the muffler was for" de" sooting it. I think it mentioned it in the owner's manual. I let that go with the '05 when I sold it but will look in the shop manual.- here is a shorten version of the directions.... The first chapter in it is much like the owners manual. On page G-20 : quote: The first clean out for the muffler will be after approx. 50 hrs of operation. Shut off vehicle and remove spark arrrestor. 2. Start and run vehicle at 1/2 throttle for 1 minute to pressurize muffler and force particulates out opening. 3. After the 1 minute shut off engine and reinstall plug and tighten bolt to 35 ft lbs. 4. repeat every 100 hrs or every oil change... unquote. The picture in the manual points to the plug on the bottom of the muffler and calls it a drain plug.. I did clean my '05 quite a few times and got a small amount of soot out each time. On our case skid steer, i got out a 1/2 cup of soot once. This was just after we got it though many years ago - now I get very little out of it. I always used anti seize on the RTV and Case's plug. I think it was a brass plug on mine but still used it and it always came out ok. The directions for cleaning the arrestor is on the net page in the shop manual (G20-1) if anyone still has it especially since it was held on the outside with a tap screw.. .. haha p.s. They really need an english speaking American to write those manuals but I guess we get the basic idea.. bordercollie
