Squeak! Squeak! Squeak!

When I first start my RTV 1100 I hear that sound for 30 seconds or so until the engine warms up. If I turn the A/C off it stops. If I turn it on it starts again. Then, after about 30 seconds it stops altogether, both with the A/C on and off.
I hope it's nothing serious. I don't have a trailer to tow the RTV to the dealer's, and he charges $80 to pick it up at my place and return it. And the dealer's shop charges an arm and a leg for repairs.

Can you narrow down the source/location? I don't have an 1100 but it sounds like it may be a loose belt or a pulley related to the A/C.

It seems to come from the right hand side where the A/C controls are, but with my messed-up ears it's hard to tell. When I had the bed raised and the engine idling it seemed to come from a gadget on the right hand side close to the back of the cab (passenger's side). But I'll have to take the Kubota in because I am a true "master of disaster" and I have learned long ago never to attempt anything more complicated than assembling a Wal-Mart coffee table. And I still have a zip-lock bag in the everything drawer with screws and washers left over from the Wal-Mart coffee table that I assembled last year and that wobbles every time I place a cup on it...

LOL on the table.

Let's see what others have to say. I don't have an 1100 around me to know where things are in the engine compartment.

It sounds like a fan belt to me . With the engine off and key removed (since you say you have bad luck with these things ) see how much the belt flexes by pushing on it. I have also had the mufflers heat shield squeak but then I pushed on it a bit and it behaved. collie

I would bet it is the A/C pulley or the idler pulley. If it goes away when the a/c is off that pretty much narrows it down.

I vote the fan belt. i had a similar experience on my 1100. it would squeal immediately after a start up because the alternator was charging the batt after start.
