Stolen RTV

Local dealership had a Special Edition RTV and an aluminum trailer stolen.
Last 5 digits of VIN are 85689.

That is not good.

Probobly would hurt for dealers that leave some unit in the open., to disconnect the key set, battery, or something.Or,Put 'em in a tight line, and just disconnect the first and last unit. And maybe invest in some heavy loggin' chain. But, as we all know, them caliber of people, will find a way....

I hate that . One thing about it, it wouldn't be hard to spot, being they are only few, compared to the orange & camo's >>>>>>

I believe a few RTV's were chained/cabled together and locked. I guess they brought their bolt cutters. All their equipment is now behind the fence.

Agreed on being easy to spot. Why did they pick a Special Edition when there's only a few. It's going to be hard for them to get rid of it. They'll probably get caught because if that VIN is entered for any service at Kubota or through PA's DCNR (who registers them), it's already flagged as stolen.

I cannot believe the ignorance of some people. They will probably take it out and destroy it or strip it down. They will realize there isn't a whole lot than can do with it and that is something that is pretty hard to hide.

I just checked mine. That s/n is only 3 off from the one I purchased.

Sounds like you got one off the same truck that came to PA. Is your dealer local to you or did you buy it down my way?

Centre County. The dealer had 19 setting on the lot. None were chained just sitting there.

And the bad thing is, they will be whining & crying when some come up missing. That's why they have what they call, Prevenative Security. Do it BEFORE it happens >>>>>>

Heck, it being a Kubota dealer, line 'em up tight, they could put some tracters with cabs, ( locked) in the front and back. Anything would be a plus in that situation .....

Who's "they"? The one that was stolen from the dealer was locked up/cabled to other RTV's.

At lease they tried. All anyone can do is try.... If they set their mind to it, they will get 'em ...

That's why we have Smith & Wesson on our side >>>>>>. [:O]

Historically, there's been stuff stolen around me. I'm pretty sure the fact I make a lot of noise has discouraged bad guys from visiting my house as I've never had any B&E's at my house, nor my neighbors. When I say a "lot of noise", suffice it to say that I'll out-gun anyone that comes close and I've sent enough lead down-range to prove it. The local LEO's come by when I'm making a lot of noise (I think someone called) but they just look at me and my "stuff", give me a thumbs-up and move on.

ne-sd , I really like your sign! If law abiding citizens could protect their property without fear of being arrested or sued, then we wouldn't have to use a chain or locks. I had thought about putting one of those profile type bad guy target things out with well placed bullet holes.... as a thought provoker but haven't needed to yet.I hope I never need to. We try to never all be gone at the same time. It makes it hard to go out for supper or out on the town together. It's just not right that criminals get such a light sentence that they can steal things people work so hard for... and be out of prison so quickly. If I was in charge of the judicial system , the creeps would all be on work farms with no TVor a/c. O.K. I'll get off my soap box now.. I do feel bad for the victims though. bordercolie[&]

That's what I'm talking about !!!!

Talkin' is one thing, but showing is another !!!!

We just had a tragedy the other day across the river. It was so sad !!!! This couple, was the most loved people of the community. Accidents do happen !!!Many folks are blaming the recent bugularies on this story. He thought his wife was the intruder >>>>

I would imagine bordercollie heard about this on the news or papers. He's not really that far away from us >>>>>>>

I wish the Kubota dealers could afford to put out equipment with the GPS lo jack typetrackers on all ofit. Now that would be nice.. I would love to see the jaws drop on those thieves when they got caught. Besides parking in the old shop,I take one tire off the old diesel 332mower at my folks in ARK. and I removed the hood and batterytoo.. a little less appealing anyway . That is one ugly mower... if you saw it you would agree... and hopefully any thief will turn his nose up at it .Everything has been so busy here that I haven't watched the news so I am behind on the sad news TG spoke of.. So so sad..Such events could be prevented ifa person always, always for sure, knows whatthey're aiming at or else they should just hold down. Anyway,I guess I will start back chaining the RTV to the barn post again[big chain and lock]. I still keep the padlock up under the dash with my pull chain on the floor[use it for pulling stuffalmost every day].When the Hoss was new, I chained it whenever I was gone for evena short while but ...I have gotten lazy about it. Well BC thanks for the wake up call on the desirability of our toys/ workhorses. You have probably helped savesome of them from being stolen. I would be one sad girl if someonestole mine. Thanks again,Bordercollie[&][&]

I don't care who you are - my key will fit, start, and run your RTV. And yours will do the same on mine. Did your Kubota dealer tell you this when you plunked down your money?

I don't wish ill on on anyone but if enough units get stolen from dealers then Kubota Credit (the dealer's floor plan financer) might make enough noise to get Kubota R&D to think about security issues. They've got all kinds of mechanical lockouts on the RTVs - why not fix THEmost basiclockout issue?

In the meantime here's a great aftermarket opportunity for someone to fix.

Shortly after I got my 900, I was in the shop where 900 was stored and decided I wouldrun out in the hayfield The key was in the house and instead of making the walk to house and back I stuck a MASTER padlock key in keyhole and started the 900. It is apparent that Kubota doesn't have the best key lock. If you want more security you will need to install a secondary locking device.

I just did a little looking around and found I can get a car alarm with keyless entry and relay pack for $60. I'm thinking of setting up the keyless entry as a way of enable/disable starting for the RTV. Could then leave the key in it and just carry the key fob.

I looked into some of the keypad coded starter like you see on a bobcat but those guys are pretty pricey. $60 sounds pretty good.

At a minimum I might tuck a master switch under the seat.

That's exactly what I was thinking on the other day, was installing a battery disconnect switch, hide it under dash or like you said, under the seat....

Working in the sign industry, we markmany law enforcement units, fire engines, ambulance, and emergency vehicles, most all have the disconnect switchs installed in them. I know for a fact, our new S.W.A.T. unit has it, for marked it the other day, and had to turn it on to start the unit. Just after seeing that, and reading this thread on stolen RTV's, I thought that would be a great answer for many of us !!!!
