Trust me Mark... the old Dougster is a nationally-renowned authority on the subject of illegal aliens! Heck, I practically wrote the handbook on how to succeed in these United States through the use of fake ID's, identity theft, free handouts and the careful exploitation of naive, bleeding heart liberals and elitist, socialist politicians. :thumb: My goodness... Why do you think I'm still here in Taxachusetts??? ;)

In fact, I may be the first US citizen to actually become an illegal alien so that I can better compete with those in the same business as me operating all around me... but who don't have to bother with licenses, fees, training, tests, liability insurance, health insurance, workers comp, paying taxes and obeying the law. :thumb: The only thing holding me up right now is the language barrier. I am having trouble with my broken English. :o As soon as I master that, I am golden! :D No more waiting in line in hospital emergency rooms! :thumb: 'cause I'll be the guy in front of you silly insurance-paying fools getting my free care!!! :yum: :yum: :yum:

I knew I'd have to explain the joke to you, Dougster, ol' boy.

Look at the picture on the ID...:yum: :yum:

See it? Since when do driver's licenses have two people in the picture?:pat:

Now Mark... The old Dougster may be old, half-senile and dirt poor too! But he is not a complete fool. :o Even with my Salvation Army store used reading glasses and a bad case of gruel hangover, I could still see that much! :thumb:

You Texas boys don't give us Northern boys near enough credit!

Dougster :starbucks:

Sure, sure...

That's about like Doc's "What's on the FEL?" post. So obvious, but not what you were looking for.

Oh, I give you plenty of credit. But for some reason I feel drawn to pick on you, like so many others here. Gotta be a sign...

Well, you'll have to stand in line for that! The Old Dougster already has his hands full keeping the old Edster and Junk straight (not to mention that Kansas Loader Kid, Hollywood Brian and at least half a dozen others! It's already a full-time job! :o
Oh, what's the difference between that red monster of yours and a Branson?
About $3,500 +/- best I can reckon. :) Actually looked at a couple Bransons as second/backup tractors for my little business... both new leftovers: one in CT and one that was being auctioned off by AGCO Finance. Machines seemed fine to me but no real bargains... and ultimately I decided to go in a different direction with the business.

It also didn't help that the nearest Branson dealer to me was that dealer down in CT... and I wasn't really all that impressed with their *committment* to the Branson brand.

The reason I asked is because one dealer here carries both brands. I looked at both before I decided to go orange. The Branson seemed a little more refined, but not that much to make that much of a price difference. I also looked at the Montana brand, and while they had some nice features and were made by Mitsubishi, they were outrageously expensive...plus there's no real service dept at the dealer here.

Yeah, the dealer thing means a lot. And when in doubt, go orange. It's almost impossible to go wrong with anything orange provided you can afford that hefty number on the price tag. I envy those of you who can.

In my dubious financial circumstances (i.e., getting laid-off!), orange was never a real option. Fact is that I could never afford to buy anything brand new off the showroom floor if my life depended on it. I needed to "get creative" then and I would still need to "get creative" today. The best choice for me is always what gives me the best bang for the buck. I tend to buy slightly used, leftover, off-lease and/or from a distressed source. For me, that's a simple fact of life.

I have told the story many times of the slightly used Deere 110 TLB that got away. That nifty yellow beast had been my clear first choice. After a subsequent whirlwind consideration of other brands and models with little real luck, I suddenly found Mahindra and was blown away by the value, the KMW loaders and the Bradco backhoes. I am a "Buy American" guy and the latter (i.e., KMW/Bradco components) really impressed me. The only remaining factor was finding one in that slightly used/distressed seller category... and by total chance, I happened on one practically in my parent's backyard. The rest is history.

But as good as it is, the business definitely needs something more. What that something more should be is a complicated matter. Each new potential job that comes in the door pulls me in a different direction.

I agree with your summation of orange...it just so happened that my dad bought an L175 way back in 1979 and my fondness for Kubota kindled back then was the driving factor in my purchase of the L2800 last year.

A buddy of mine just bought an older backhoe, and had to have the motor rebuilt...he still made out like a bandit. When the time comes, I want to do the same with a mini-excavator. But then I'll need to upgrade trailers and step up to a one-ton truck. I'd like to find an Isuzu NPR with a dump bed (I saw one like this on ShopTalk.com), and install a gooseneck hitch to pull a 30' equipment trailer. But that's just dreaming for the moment.

A 1-ton diesel pick-up with a 14K (gross) equipment trailer sure beats a 3/4-ton gas pick-up and a 10K (gross) equipment trailer any day of the week. :o Sure wish I had the former instead of the latter as it sure would increase my equipment shopping options.
