The Kubota dealership dropped off my new RTV 900 today. I ripped around on it last night and it seems to be everything I thought it would be. We tried loading it onto a large two place snowmobile trailer. Man that thing is heavy! I think I am going to have to upgrade my trailer to a little heavier style. I am wondering about the diesel engine. We had diesel tractors on the farm when I was young and we had to let them warm up and cool down. Does the Kubota engine need the same care? Or when you stop can you turn the thing off quickly without damaging the engine?

KEZ,

What part of the country are you in? (basically, what kind of weather do you get).

The diesel doesn't need to really warm up much. Basically, if it's above freezing, you can start right out. Unless it's really warm, you'll find it a bit sluggish but that's due more to the tranny fluid not being warmed up.
When below freezing, it'll move but again, it'll be pretty sluggish. Again, this is mainly due to the tranny fluid. I have block heaters on both the engine and tranny for those cold days.

For shutdown, just park and turn it off. No need to cool. The cooling process on diesels is primarily to avoid damage to turbo's but the RTV doesn't have one.

Where did you find your engine & tranny heaters at ..... That would be a big help come winter .....

bczoom,
I am from Northeastern Saskatchewan in Canada. It is nice and warm right now but our winters are full of snow and cold. I have a block heater on the RTV so I think I will be set once the cold weather is back. Thanks for the tips...much appreciated.

Your dealership can geta block heater but I don't think they have 1 for the tranny (maybe something aftermarket is available). There is no need for it/them if you live in the south.

Agreed on all points.
Isn't the dealer version one that heats the water/antifreeze in the radiator line?
