tire chains

grapeman, I noticed in a previous thread that you had tire chains on your RTV. How are they working? Are they only on the rear? Any problems, concerns with them? I have a set from my 4 wheeler that will fit and I was thinking of trying them, I run into some icy conditions sometimes. jdh1

jdh1,This is the second winter season that I have used the chains, I put them on the first wet spell in fall and leave them on all winter. I have the turf tires which are usless when it is wet.The chainswith 12"wide turf tires don't seem to bother the lawn as much as my tractors with ag tires dowhen it is wet. I have them just on the back tires. I go through 2 wet spots in my woods about 20 ft long and 10" deep and haven't got stuck (yet). It alsogoes fairly good through snow with chains.

Oneproblem is loading rtv on my big trailer with thechains on, my ramps are fairly smooth steel, after a couple of near mishaps ( chains spin easy on the steel)I use 4-wheel drive andgo on very slow.

grapeman, sounds like they work OK, I have ATV tires but I still spin them pretty good on the hills when its frozen. thanks for the reply, jdh1 PS, i'm probably not that far from you, in Spencer, about 15 miles south of Ithaca, so I know what you mean about the mud, especially the last few years, jdh1
