Today's youth...

For reasons that are not important to this discussion I found myself on a forum frequented by younger adults. The forum is mostly dedicated to the music that they listen to today and the site allows you to preview songs and download them if you like. There were groups called Bottomfeeder, Dying Fetus, The Rubbish Zoo, Trapped Under Ice, and a whole assortment of other nasty names.

I listened to part of a couple of these songs and they were appalling. The forum posts were absolutely ridiculous, gross, crude, nasty, and in just bad taste. I left in disbelief and it bothered me all day. That night I told Mrs. Squerly about the site and took her for a visit. She was equally shocked.

Now I’m no prude and I often think back to the days when I exposed my parents used to what I’m sure they saw as unbecoming music, but I just don’t think it was anywhere near a bad as this stuff is. And when I was younger I was taught respect, which is a quality that I possess today. But the culture of this younger group was absolutely scary. I’m very concerned for the future of America (and the world for that matter) if this group of ingrates is going to be tomorrow’s citizens, workers and leaders.

Am I being concerned for nothing? Or are we in serious trouble?

What you wrote but changing the name of the bands has happened every generation since music was invented.

Luckily, not all kids listen to that stuff. My teenage daughter sticks mainly to country music. Ditto on my pre-teen son (although he prefers Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney and similar compared to the Taylor Swift type my daughter prefers).

The people that listen to what you're talking about don't represent the entire culture of their peers. It's a subset.

I too am worried about our future but it's not the kids that bother me. Hmmm, in that respect, those that are causing my fears are the hippies of the 60's and 70's that are currently running things so you're concern may be valid. That sub-culture got older but I don't believe they ever grew up.

Sorry, when I said I'll pass, I meant that I'm not even going to visit the site.

You prick. You made me look. I was expecting visual only when I clicked on the link. Unfortunately for me, I was just watching a YouTube video on a cool way of cleaning corn and the audio was poor so I had my computer's volume on full.

I feel damaged now. :(
