Top Speed

I just did the 200 hour service on my 1120 using all Kubota products. I only run this around the farm and the fields never on the road. Just curious, I had read somewhere that the top speed for this is around 29 miles an hour. The fastest I could ever get this is 18 miles an hour over a long flat field. Is there an adjustment I can make or is this the best it will do?

Rockarosa, How did it do before the change? Did you see the link on the earlier post about troubles some have had with the proper filling ports being located for refiling after service? My 2011 900xt will do 28/29 on flat road. bordercollie

The fastest before was 18 MPH, just had it out and could only get it up to 15 MPH. I checked the fluids again and they are right on. The Hydraulic under the seat, the Trans under the bed. Everything is topped off. When new it would never come close to 29 MPH. The Kubota starts and runs smooth, just no top end and I thought maybe there is an adjustment.

I could only guess but wold make sure the air filter is clean and what about the spark arrestor on this new type model? I hope it is the kind you can clean but I am guessing it is that new fangled thing that I've heard about - a permanent internal type with no access? collie

Hi Collie, I blew out the air filter but it really wasn't bad. I'll have to check out the muffler but I think it's solid. Like I said when new it never really went past 18 MpH. I guess as long as it starts and runs smooth I can live with it. I'm just curious if there is an adjustment on the gas pedal or cable that would give it more speed.

I'd be checking the throttle linkage. When the foot pedal is depressed fully the injector pump lever should be against the "wide open" stop. If it's not fully open adjust the cable until it is.

Not sure how ur RTV is equipped, if it has a hand throttle you could try running at wide open speed using the foot pedal, then pull the hand throttle to wide open position and see if there is engine rpm gain?

If it's like mine, the hand throttle hooks directly to the injector pump lever. If it's properly adjusted it should pull the lever to it's wide open position. If there's a difference between the two it would indicate your foot pedal is out of adjustment.

Let us know what you find. :)

Rockarosa. if i were you i would throw the inner air filter away and get a new one. they don't have to be dirty to restrict air flow. i have seen many a farmer change the turbo on a john deere because the inner filter was plugged and you couldn't tell it. i change my inner at least once per year. and i clean the outer with air once then throw it away the next time. if i change out the outer i always put in a new inner too. i don't think the spark arrest on the new ones is prone to stoppage. i agree check the throttle to make sure it is getting full travel at the pump.

I checked the linkage and the pedal is opening the throttle all the way open to the stop. I blew out the inner air filter which looked clean. Like I said this Kubota never ran past 18 MPH. The fluids are where they should be, the accelerator linkage works as it should but still no top end. Maybe the regulator is faulty. It starts easy, runs smooth just no top end. Thank you all for the replies, I'm going to keep checking.

like i said before. "don't blow out the inner air filter, replace it" i am not saying that is your problem but it has been known to happen often. if it doesn't fix your problem just keep them both and use them up accordingly. it is ok to blow out the outer filter but never ever use air on the inner.

No It's not under warranty, I should have had this checked out before the warranty expired. I'll get a new inner air filter and try that. Like you said if it doesn't help then I have a spare. Thank you all for the help.

I believe it's a mechanical setting. Maybe the governor setting for example. Especially since you've confirmed the throttle linkage is correct.

Man,,,,, that would require a shop visit. My guess is a shop is going to discover your engine high rpm setting is off????

if you can find someone local with a photo tachometer, and you can find out what the stall sppeed RPM is you can get an RPM off of the harmonic balancer. it is easy to adjust the governor by turning the adjustment screw on the throttle lever. just make sure it is warmed up real good first.

I have a WSM for my 900.

Under engine specifications it states "Rated Revolution" at 3200 rpms.

I spent 15 minutes digging thru my WSM. No where does it address adjusting the governed rpm. I thought if I could find info on doing that it might confirm the above stated governed number.

I don't doubt Arthur's guidance at all. Just thought I'd take a pic of the WSM pages that addressed this procedure and post them. But can't find any.

Low speed

I think a 1100 is rated at 30 mph.I am on a steep learing curve here. But I would say your hydro punp is not getting full travel. If your eng is turning say 3000 rpm your unit should still go say 25 -26 mph 2800 maybe 22-23 mph but at 18 mph I don't think rpm is your problem.I wish I could tell you how to ck this adjustment at this time but I cannot I will know later trust me.How does it do in low range mine in low range will pretty much burn tires in gravel in low range I have a 900.My low range is near perfect right to 14 mph now high range creeps to 24 mph.A gen set is rated at 3600 rpm.Thats the problem I have with Kubota dealers don't know how to adjust them your problem is just a 1/2 a turn away on a cable or a pressure adjustment.Joe

I checked my unit last night, it's max was 3170 RPM, but it struggles to get to 19MPH. I have the WSM and am going to check the pressure settings. I really don't mind the low speed most of the time, it would be nice when I'm driving on the hard surface road to be able to go closer to 25MPH.
