Top Speed

I checked my unit last night, it's max was 3170 RPM, but it struggles to get to 19MPH. I have the WSM and am going to check the pressure settings. I really don't mind the low speed most of the time, it would be nice when I'm driving on the hard surface road to be able to go closer to 25MPH.

That confirms my WSM quote of 3200 rpm.

Hoping for the OP that it's rpm problem. Easier to adjust than the hydraulics.

I've not looked at mine, but by Arthur's description adjusting rpms shouldn't be a problem. Just need an accurate way to measure.

I wasn't sure how fast I should go in low range. Probably havn't been past 6MPH. I have towed heavy wagon loads of wood and dragged trees. The Kubota has good power, just no top end. I'm going to check out the governor adjustment.

As long as the engine is properly governing itself there is nothing to be hurt by running wide open throttle in low range. No different than running WOT in high range.

On a hot day if I run WOT more than 10-15 minutes my engine heat gets pretty high.

aurthuritis,
That was a no load max RPM. I used a non contact tachometer, with the reflective tape on the inside of the front pulley.

No load rpm

Most time max rpm is ck/d at no load could not really be ck/d other wise because load would change so would rpm.At 3170 rpm you are right at factory spec.I would think that's not your problem from what I read I would think Kubota turned these pumps back to meet admissons standards in a perfect world in a high load this thing should smoke some and mine does not probley like yours.I think this is the problem we all face thats why some with older ones don't encounter this.Every tractor I own if it boogs down it smokes until rpm comes up and load reduces back in to power band. This is going to take some time to figure out for me.A couple degrees of timing can change a zero into a hero but I don't think that's the problem I thanks its fuel .JOE

the rack adjustment is on the front of thepump. easy to adjust by just backing out he screw a little. also getting the stall speed to spec is same same as more fuel. if the specs are real tight it might take both.
