Upcoming Purchase - Extended Warranty?

As a general rule, I avoid purchasing an extended warranty on big purchases. My truck was an exception back in '05 and I was glad I got it.

I have read about several folks on this forum with some really interesting problems with their units. Unfortunately, I can't tell how old their RTV is but it seems like they've seen a lot of service. I am interested at what point in their RTV's service life did they begin to have issues that required attention.

For the Kubota RTV-X1120 that we are planning to buy, would you purchase the extended warranty based on your experience?

I appreciate the input and really glad this forum exists - I have learned something almost every day.

Thanks

Purchased one on my 14 Ram Sport 1500 because I took one look at the electronics, saw what they control, found the cost to replace and said "I ain't driving this thing without long term protection" so I bought one for it.

I couldn't find what the extended warranty cost was on the 1120 but unless it's in the hundreds of dollars I'd probably pass.

The most expensive to fail parts are the drive train which has been relatively well tested throughout the years. You also get 12 months out the door if something goes wrong.

So unless you plan to use it hard or put a ton of hours on a year, it might not be worth it.

My 04 900 has about 1000 hrs on it, hardly broken in and just keeps putting along pushing snow and doing other chores here.

I bought an 1120 in Sept. of 2015. In have 220 hours on it so far with no problems. I did the 50 and 200 hour service myself. The dealer that I bought this from told me they are built so tough that I would be wasting my money on an extended service plan. I have an outdoor woodburner so I'm always hauling wood, either in the bed or pulling a 18 foot trailer loaded to the top. This is one of the best tools that I ever bought for myself.

Other than a broken muffler (at manifold) and exhaust mount (at transmission) I have not has a thing wrong with my 2014 X900. The broken exhaust system was repaired under warranty. I now have 600+ hours and 3,700 miles on the Kubota. My B7800 tractor has 1,800 hours and other than normal maintenance it has been a joy to own. I doubt if purchasing an extended warranty is worth it - other than piece of mind. Good luck with your decision.

I'll pile on and say except for a couple very minor issues found in the first couple months, my '04 RTV has had no problems and has never been in a shop.

Just some minor stuff on my 05:
Rebuild the frame that holds the rear hydraulic tank.
Reweld the exhaust pipe as it exits the manifold.
Changed out the fuel pump for electric one and "cutting out" problems ceased. (sticky)
Poor corrosion control leads to replacing tailgate from fertilizer spreader.

Positives are:
Shifting is still "stiff" though use brings driving habits that work around problems.
IT JUST GOES ON AND ON..................

Hi. I have had no problems except for the ujoints on my 2011 RTV 900. They wouldn't be warrantied anyway. I'm glad I didn't buy it. They have produced a good engine .
On the insurance, they will want to sell kubota insurance to you when they write the paperwork . It will probably be reasonable but it will be included in the "loan" so it could add $1200 plus to the total costs being financed over 5 or 6 years. Many say it is much cheaper to buy the insurance from your local agent. bordercollie

Thanks very much for the information. According to the website, an additional year of coverage is about $800 and two years is $1350.

Based on your responses about the initial quality of these machines, I don't plan to purchase any extended warranty.

That's just more money to use for accessories like a plastic top, hand throttle and a rear view mirror!! :)

Thanks for taking the time to help educate a newbie.
