Hey guys and gals...
Just got a 2007 rtv 900 on sunday. It was delivered by a person while i was on vacation. Its missing one large thing...the front drive shaft. Not the axles, but the shaft connecting the trans to the front diff. Anyone know where i can get one? I have looked online, but most parts stores just sell accessories and maintenance items.

Also, the diff lock lever is rusted up pretty back and the knob to pull the lever to keep it locked...the cable is seized. Anyone have any info on this...maybe a quick fix?

I bought the machine from about 50 pics...never thought a 4x4 would be missing the drive shaft. Its also pretty rusty, which can be fixed, but it was something i wasnt expecting. He never shot any pics feom below...i guess we live and learn...

Any or all help would be appreciated...
Thanks
Chris

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new-to-you RTV!

I don't have a part number but thought you could buy a drive shaft. Hopefully someone else has the part number.

As for anything seized, I recommend Kroil. It blows away things like WD-40 and PB blaster for loosening seized parts. Spray it in and wait awhile. If no luck, repeat. It should eventually take care of it.

Welcome to the forum. You can order anything you need from Messick's Eqpt. Good folks - mention our forum- I order from them and I am in MS.. There is an updated shaft which requires some minor mods or the older one which uses a carrier bearing between the front and rear . I have the new type on my 2011 model and it has almost 1200 hrs on it. My '05 had about 4200 hrs on it when I sold it . The old style shaft had been replaced on it multiple times at around $100 each time for parts , Don't know what one costs now though. The new style is quieter and has rubber boots on each joint but more $$$$. bordercollie

You might want to verify the new shaft has the same size u-joints as your current one. Would suck to get the new one and the yokes don't fit. I will second the Kroil and sometimes cables need to come off and be hung vertical to let the Kroil soak down along the inner cable.

I'd be wondering if the diff wasn't shot and the seller just removed the drive shaft to get it moving. Have to wonder about someone that would sell something like this without full disclosure. Good luck, I hope, for your sake, that its not a very expensive fix. Keep us posted and welcome to the site.

I would check the oil in the diff before I ordered anything and see what it looked like. The dipstick/plug is easily accessed through the area there where a winch would go- behind the bumper- there on top of the diff. How many hours are on this machine? bordercollie

Did the seller imply that the 4wd system functioned? Unless you got a crazy good deal I'd be quite upset!

Yes, that definitely smells like crappo in my book. Pretty sorry way to do ya.

The guys around here are top notch though. Will steer you straight!!

I work on RTV's used in an underground mine. Lots of rust. The tech's take the drive shafts off because corrosion gets in the splines and wears the splines out on both the out put and input shafts """SO CHECK THE SPLINES B4 Ordering just a drive line""...
