Weather in NE

This Sunday into Monday "nor'easter" is causing me "fits" . It is intensifying nicely, but it is really starting to pull down a dry slot as it develops. The rain/snow line is tracking a little north and west from where I thought it would yesterday. There will be bands of heavy snow and bands of no snow as this system develops and moves on out. The coastal areas of NE should see the most snow and wind (especially northern areas) as this storm tracks up over the ocean and further intensifies. A lot of weatherman are :hide: right now, but I remain at the :lam: looking at all the data. I think there will be another coastal coming into the area Thursday into Friday this week. Right now it looks like it will be a heavier, wetter snow event. Eastern areas may see some rain initially due to the air temperatures. There is some decent cold air moving into the area at the end of the week. I see that the old Dougster is not online so I am assuming he is pushing snow. He needs :starbucks: money. I am still :waiting: for what I predicted for my area, right now I have ~4.5". Keep you all posted. Jay

Yes I am bored and getting a little "active" due to all the meds I am on presently. Thanks for the zip #. I will check it out in a little while. Jay

Yeah, I'm a little bored too, School was cancelled and it is snowing but when I got the call at 5:30 it had just started and I thought "what whuses!"

I decided I won't go mill even though I need to make a few more purlins because it is snowing and I would have to take my plows off to put my forks on. NOt a big deal, but a perfect excuse to put it off. I could go do some puttering around but who knows?

Don't sweat itif it you can't get around to a Canaan prediction as I am a take it as it comes kind of guy, but if you want to test your skills I will be a sounding board for you.

Shinnlinger:

I would have gotten back to you sooner but I had to take my 20+ medications and fight over the computer with my wife who is telecommuting today. I agree with the whuses comment. School administrators do not always look out their windows before they call off snow, but I guess they have to look at costs and liabilities of operations. My school is always open, but since I am sick again and will be out for awhile I do not have to worry about working.

I did a regional radar shot and it looks like your area is getting a band of light snow, but when I looked in with Dopplar I did not see anything significant at the lower altitudes. I think this system is doing to you what it is doing to me- most of the precipitation is east of us. I will predict that you and I will ultimately get around the same snow totals- ~5"-6" with this storm. I believe you and I will get a lot more snow Thursday into Friday with the next coastal storm. Will keep you in the loop. Jay

PS: I got the computer for awhile. I will analyze your area with Dopplar at different elevations. I will get back to you if I see anything different, but for all practical purposes this storm is out of here for you and me. Jay :letitsnow:

I just looked at your area at different elevations with Dopplar. It looks like alot of your snow is evaporating before it hits the ground. You may get some "wrap around" snow as this system intensifies over the ocean later today, but unless the system stalls the additional snow amounts will be low. Jay

The old Dougster is back. It was a very tough morning. Only enough snow depth to bill for one push (even though everyone needed two and will need a clean-up run later) and the absolute worst snow and snowplowing conditions I have ever faced. This white stuff is sticking like glue and packing like concrete... plus the ground is still warm from last week so I am doing a lot of lawn and driveway damage. Oddly, the snow was easier to shovel than plow due to the warm ground, sticky nature and relatively modest depth and weight compared to some of the mega-saturated stuff we saw earlier this season. In short, it was a very bad day for the Dougster. Probably did more damage than I made money... and lost at least one client... possibly two.

Time for the old Dougster to go get a real job again... back in some jail cell-sized office. :o

THanks J,

So far you are right. Undecided about the fate of the day I took the best option and fell asleep. I just got up and excitedly looked out to see if I could go plow so I could at least FEEL productive, but we only have 2 inches so far. WTF? It has been snowing all day!

Speaking of significant others, My wife is NOT a fan of the time I spend sharing my BRILLIANT ideas with you all. BUt what is nice about this s she thinks I am checking the weather...which is right.

THanks Again!

Dougster,

Sorry about the mud.

JAy old boy you did it again. You did the snow dance last night didn't you. :pat: We need to have a little talk about your aim. I just talked to my wife. 18" of snow at the house and still comming down. :hide:

Just to let you know, I am gainfully employed and do not need any of this white stuff to pay the bills like poor old Dougster.:starbucks:

So far I have had ~5" today :pat: . I take several measurements and take the average. It is still snowing but it is very light with no/little accumulation. The snow in my area was light and the ground underneath was frozen (It never really thawed at all during the recent "thaw".). The winds never really picked up for any drifting here. I did manage to spin my weighted R-1's every now when moving this stuff. I might drop down the scarifiers on my box scraper to rough the driveway up prior to the pending Thursday into Friday event. I still believe that we will get a coastal storm with that system. The snow will be wetter and heavier with the possibility of sleet/freezing rain/rain along the coast. Inland areas should see all snow. I also saw red polls today at my bird feeding stations. They are a northern Canadian bird species, although they do episodically migrate down this far south for food(?), habitat loss and/or a really cold snap coming this way(?). It will be getting pretty cold this weekend. Keep you all in the loop. Jay :letitsnow:

PS: I want to thank you all for the feedback  . It is helping my refine how I interpret the data. To me it is a "win-win" situation ;) . You will not find me :sorry: :hide: because of my "predictions", but  and :lam: trying to figure it all out. Jay

Dougster,
I'd welcome the confines of an office over the frustrations you are dealing with. In an office at least you can count on the paycheck. You have to talk Jay into doing snow dances, and his aim has been off of late.
Tractoring is more fun when you have a regular paycheck coming in. JMHO.

Dougster, Sorry about the mud.
Thanks Shinn - Mud is supposed to be a New Hampshire & Maine thing... reserved (rather appropriately) for Mud Season, not winter!!! :)

I can attest to that! :) I have seen his wallet and it is nearly as big as a suitcase. He has to remove it from his rear pocket or he can't sit straight! :yum:

Seriously, the old Edster is paid rather handsomely. In both green money and scrap steel (and let's not forget his unlimited expense account and those nightly lobsta and fillet mignon dinners! :D

Please Jay... anything but what we had today! :( I am still sitting here shaking my head and wondering where the heck that insane white stuff we had today came from. :o

Never any need to apologize! You give it your very best shot... and then God decides to use his own model!!! ;)

I cannot dispute that notion at this time. :o

Obviously, I have no such experience. :(

Dougster,

4x Hugs??? :) I believe that is a new record! :D Ed will be soooooo jealous! ;) I feel better already!!! :thumb:

I didn't mention this earlier, but this insane snow clung to the trees so much that many small trees and branches came down. Two of my clients couldn't even be plowed until I moved fallen branches and beat the bent-over trees like a madman until they stood back up again and gave me some running room. I ended up looking like a poor old snow plowin' snowman... and the truck (and strobe light bar) took a real beating. :o

But worst of all (and I didn't notice this at all until my evil neighbor pointed it out with a big smile on his face)... my own phone line (including Internet via DSL) was ripped off the house by overloaded branches and leaning trees. The line was hanging over the street by about 5 feet!!! It was still intact because my phone and Internet were still working... but I had to act quickly to cut the branches, beat the trees and free up all of my incoming lines (electric, phone and abandoned Internet+phone coax cable from the old days). It's up about 8 feet now using bungee cords attached to the abandoned line... high enough to pass cars but could still be taken out at any minute by a tall enough truck.

Called Verizon (my hideous phone company) and they told me they'd try to get someone out to fix it... SOMETIME AROUND THURSDAY!!! So if I suddenly loose contact with the outside world... please folks: Don't try to email or call. I'll be back when Verizon (yawn) gets around to it.

Lord knows this ain't your father's telephone company anymore!!!
