What If...

What if Kubota kept the 25hp D1105 engine and mated it with a four speed manual transmission?

Of course, they would have to limit the speed somehow. But would anyone buy a four speed diesel Kubota?

I am not sure a manual transmission and clutch would have the same utility or descent control of the current configuration but it is, at the very least, an interesting prospect.

It would put the control for choosing the right gear in the hands of the operator and would significantly even out those hills and grades where the climbing speed drops significantly for some of us.

I would be among the first to take a test ride.

That would be cool. I would buy one over the hydro. With the torque of the deisel you wouldn't have to shift much. It would also be a great tool to train a kid.

My streetrod has a 6-speed manual and it's great for tooling around but my 900 is used for a lot of snow plowing and close maneuvering in the woods. I'd chose the hydro over the manual every time and I don't have the stress on the drivetrain the manual can deliver.

I've drove tanks with hydro static transmissions, their is no need for Kubota to have a transmission that thinks on its own or to leave the factory without being tested and adjusted.

I would be down with that, or even a automatic like on the Honda Four wheelers. The hydro has its advantages however it would be easier to use if it had the aforementioned toe heal pedal, that would make plowing and reversing in general so much easier.

I choose the hydro. I just put in H and go after the cow(s) . It would be too hard to chase cows/calves while shifting and clutching with a manual . I tried that with a truck back in the old days and ...no way could I do it with the pace of an animal. shifting up down in seconds... get the RTV past their shoulders and they stop... then slow down or speed up... ... the hydro type is my only interest . edit: the toe pedal would be nice though :) bordercollie

I agree with Judy,,,IF,,,we had toe/heel pedals.

I'll never accept that the HVT is the best choice.
