Winch size

Is a 4,500 lbs, winch big enough for my RTV 900XT ? Going to mount it to tubing so it can be used from the front or rear receiver. Buying a Warrior winch.

that would be a perfect winch size. get a snatch block for it too and you'll be setup for just about anything .

My warn M6000 is right for me. Can't recommend anything more than 8000 or under 5000. Be prepared to install cab controls so you can keep your foot on the brake. See the other winch thread for info/pics

wasn't there a member in here who had a 8000lb hydraulic winch hookup on their rtv? that was a massive winch .

Be careful out there with those big winches. When your winch is stronger then what it's mounted to, something on your RTV can be ripped apart well before the winch bogs down (especially when using draw bar mounting).

yea your right on that one zoom. too much power can damage alot of stuff. not to mention draw down that battery really fast even if the motor is running.when i had my hpx i had to add an extra deep cycle battery and i mounted a toyota alternator to the engine to run the stuff i needed. i left the regular charging system on the hpx to charge the stock batteries and the alternator was for the deep cycle battery.

I think Peanut is right the 4500 is the perfect size. Before i sold my polaris ranger it was equiped with the Viper Max 4500 with a snatchblock. Didn't need it much, but when it was called on it never failed. Never needed the snatchblock.

I know the rtv's are considerably heavier, but not to the point you would need anything larger, especially with a snatchblock.

Decided not to mount on tubing, designing a mounting plate now, will cut / drill and weld in the next couple of days. None of the mounting holes line up right now. I think I have came up with a workable plan. ( no welding on the Kubota ) it will all bolt in. Once installed about half of it will be outside the front guard. Also the one I purchased has a synthetic cable rated at 7000 lbs.

the rope is nice but keep the winch covered had a buddy run through the bushes and it frayed the rope up. it's strong but them pickers will taer it apart.just keep it covered and you'll be fine.

Great, Thanks Peanut. I cut and drilled the plate and angle iron. Everything fits good. Now a little welding and paint , I can bolt the whole thing in. If I ever figure out how to post pics I'll post details how I mounted. It's going to set tight inside the bush guard.

When I try to post pics ,it ask for a URL address, I have no idea ??? It will not give the option to go to my pictures.:beatdeadhorse5:

Totally lost, it will not offer anywhere to go to my pictures, I'm on an I-Pad. Does that matter ? It only asks for URL address.

I'm going to send you a private message with my e-mail. If you e-mail me the pictures, I'll get them on the forum.

it's easier if you have a web hosting site to upload your pictres too. i use imageshack it will give you the url on every pic you upload and all you do is copy and past it into your post and walla your picture is there.

Looking for those pictures, you can email them, markjohn@up.net. I am getting ready to build my plate for a super-winch, not going to spend $100 bucks for a plate when I have a shop to make one. pictures would sure help before I start.

Just a thought. I like this detachable mount. Reviews arn't great but seems too work fine under very harsh conditions.

Mine was Under 40 on sale and besides being able to move it to RTV rear or to other vehicles its handy if you need to work on the winch or just don't need it. HF had a 2x2 hitch extender for under 10 and easily welded to a big angle i had. Handles add a nice place to carry my choke chain.
