Won't start/Won't stop

First, my bx23 wouldn't start then i found that the Neg battery cable was loose and had split(not all the way. I jumperer around the cable and got the tractor started then I coldn' get it to shut off! I turned the key off, removed all the fuses andf connectors I could find and even pulled BOTH cables off the battery and the thing kept running. I called my dealer's mechanic and he had me pull the fuel pump connector then pinch the fuel line for about 10 minutes but neither attempt worked. He said I had a SERIOUS problem but didn't have any other answers. I thought about it for a bit and then removed the air filter and put a plastic cup over the air intake and it finally stalled out. Today I get to put everything back to the way it was and see if I can start it again(at least I know how to shut it down now) but I'm thoroughly confused as to why it wouldn't shut down thru normal methods. The batterty was low and I did have to jump start it to begin with. Did I screw something up, i.e. ignition switch, etc? thx

Hey BoxofRocks, welcome to Net Tractor Talk.

What an unusual problem.

I'm wondering what makes the key shut off the engine? Wherever that connection is, you should be able to remove that wire and have it shut off. Sounds like you might have fried that part of the switch since it will not shut off normally.
Do you have to have the operators manual for the tractor? That would make it easier to track down what that wire goes to. I would suspect the starter, but it's a WAG. I'm not a mechanic. :hide:

When you turn off the key, it cuts off electric to the fuel solenoid. Diesels are turned off by cutting the fuel, not the electric.
To isolate the ignition switch, you may try turning it off via a safety switch. Try something like putting it in gear and then getting off the seat. The safety switch in the seat should cut off that solenoid (although your key is still on).

I found the problem! I apparently blew the 20a fuse even though a visual inspection looked ok(finally put a meter on each fuse). Put evertyhing back together (that was a miracle!)and away she went! This was my first time on ANY forum and you folks were GREAT! Just goes to show that I AM dumber than a boxofrocks! Anyway, I learned quite a bit from this and now want to get my hands on the nuts and bolts manual so I can be even more dangerous(as long as I can keep you guys around too!) Know where I can get one?? Thanks again everyone!

Congrats BoR! :thumb: you got er done :applause: :applause:
No way are you dumber than a box of rocks. I have a great dane that has earned that title. :D
I should have thought of fuses rather than the switch being fried. Good call and troubleshooting on your part. I'm glad the forums could be of a little help in getting you through this one. We'll all have to remember this as it will come up somewhere again.

Like Jim said, Messicks Tractors is a good place to get the manual and any other Kubota parts you need. Neil (one of the owners of Messicks) is one of the moderators here and helps out in all kinds of ways as he has time. His banner ad will show up on every 6th or so click at the top of the page.
