If you open the plug in the muffler and drive the RTV under varying loads, including nearly full throttle, does that accomplish the same thing as tapping it with a rubber mallet while it is running?

Roughly every six months, I have opened the plug and drove the RTV for about 30 minutes. I never see any suet come out as I am in the operators seat. In August, I sat behind the RTV and opened the plug. While running, I tapped the muffler all over for about 5 minutes. No visible residue.

Any idea if it matters?

Thanks.

that's pretty much been my experience. the fuel is set so low on them now that the smoke that causes the black stuff just isn't there.

I agree. When I first got my machine I check for soot quite often and I have never seen anything. Even the end of the tail pipe is clean. I don't check it anymore. I make sure I use Ultra Low Sulfur fuel.
