You highly sophisticated, educated folk call it the vernal pool.

Us old low-class bums call it the gosh-dang swamp! :)

Difference strokes for different folks! :D

Dougster :starbucks:

I just use big/strange words to protect my arse and keep the authorities away from my place and out of my life as much as possible. I do not care if most people can not understand me (being idiosyncratic has many benefits if you can live outside of direct public scrutiny). I do care if the NTT crowd can not understand my neologisms, ramblings, and/or weather geek reports. I truly appreciate the "realness" here. If anyone here feels I am talking from where the sun don't shine  chime in- and this could be a long, long thread :hide: . Jay :letitsnow:

I just lost my second longwinded response that not only answered any and all weather related questions, but addressed all the world's ills :pat: . In quick summation: I episodically PM the Ol' Dougster with my "read" on things weatherwise. The Japanese and Canadian weather models have had a higher "hit rate" predictionwise recently. I am a confirmed weather geek and spend a good part of the day looking at weather data since I do not have a lot much else that I am allowed:lam: . I really like the information I can glean from the NWS, Accuweather, and Intellicast. I am convinced that the different countries' model supporters try to push their models on reality and rarely if ever look out their windows and the local weatherpeople only read Dopplar radar to see what is coming and summarize what the other people are telling them, but they might look out their windows. I try to look at the whole picture and blow my predictions with some regularity (like today). If anyone ever comes out with a good prediction model some governemnt and/or agency will intervene. Luckily I have nothing to worry about even if they could find me. Quick read for NE cloudy to partially sunny on Sunday, an anomolously warm early part of the week next week, a brief return to seasonal temperature later in the week, then warming. there are a few potential systems (by different model) possible. Jay :letitsnow:

PS: I have trouble looking at one model when I am concentrating on not talking from where the sun don't shine be it cloudy and/or with mixed precipitation :yum: .

Jay,
seriously, send me some precipitation! Not picky about the form, well...no hail. We're seeing a lot of fires due to stupidity and humidity as low as 14%. So that leaves one hope, rain, because it appears the stupidity is here to stay.

I know you don't control the weather, but isn't it everyone's pastime to blame the weatherman?

And/Or Ol' Dougster :starbucks: around this place it seems :respect: . Although I have been focusing on mostly the NE for snow; I do look at weather data across the US and follow interesting patterns. With so many interesting individuals out there in NTTland I should expand my "coverage" for "interesting stuff". I also go crazy around severe storms and strange weather  . I do not have a lot to do at this point in my life (medical stuff not caused by Ol' Dougster) so I guess I'll be watching. Jay :letitsnow:

PS: For the NE more of the same this week especially the south and east. Some wet (M some frozen stuff briefly & W) and relatively (anomolously) warm weather (T) with a possible snow system this coming Friday into Saturday for the Dougster  . He needs more :starbucks: . You can always blame the weather geek as I don't :hide: . You heard it here first :yum: .

I just looked at Dopplar Radar for your general area (KAMA assumed). There was not much to see at this point other than you are in a Fire Watch Alert Mode down there. Low humidity and increasng wind- great  . At this point does not look like you will get anything popping up rainwise, but I will take another look later  . Our dry period with its associated Fire Watches and Alerts in NE is in the Fall generally sometimes late summer if it is real dry. I agree there are a lot of idiots out there walking around  . I see them up here a lot as well :pat: .

Dougster, Down here it would be called a crawfish farm.
hugs, Brandi
Yep! Got all too familiar with them little buggers on my numerous Louisiana assignments! I confess that I'll never quite understand the whole crawfish thang, but it didn't stop me from eating them! :)
FMJ, .........and never say you have woodpeckers on your property loud enough for anyone to hear it. You would never get to cut down or dig up a tree ever again.
hugs, Brandi
Another joy of life that I live with in my current location... and noticed the same telling tree damage on that property we checked out this weekend up in New Hampshire. :( Very hard to escape them I guess.

I doubt if you skeered them off, but it probably is a little disheartening to see your very first post/thread turned into an expansion of a few members personal little playground. Doc will give you your own forum for as little as $4.95 a month.
Well, I guess that post is directed squarely at me since I first brought up the "Kentucky Delegation vs. New England Delegation" rivalry/joke thang as a way to break the ice. And if I ticked off one member enough to show me the door and encourage me to leave, I probably ticked off other members as well. Making it worse, I brought on the wrath of a charter member... and that makes it an even more serious offense in my mind. :sorry:

Since my posting style and dubious presence in any thread makes it more likely to veer off-track, I will refrain from posting in any new Intro thread for the foreseeable future and see if that improves the situation.

Not as a direct reply to Dougster, but as a reply to the direction this thread is headed;

Over my lifetime, I've learned a few things. Some lessons were learned too late to do any good. Some lessons were learned at the expense of burning bridges where the lessons could never be used for any real good. Every now and then, I actually learn something of some significant value to myself or those around me. One of THOSE lessons is a simple axiom We ALL know, but often have to be reminded of.

You can't please everyone all the time.

From what I've seen so far, the core group here likes to take off with a thread and run with it. Apparently we like to show off for new members. In direct words from the forums administrator, he's OK with our "Welcome Wagon". I've had the great pleasure of being a part of several of these "welcome, now we're taking the thread and going banannas" introduction threads. They're fun, harmless, and no where has it been brought up IN ONE OF THESE THREADS where the original poster felt slighted, intimidated, embarrassed, or "skert".

I've been involved with several websites from their inception. Almost without fail, they ALL end up with a group of "charter members" of sorts that more or less rule the roost. In almost all cases, they alienate a few people, and endear themselves to many more. I've been on both sides of that fence. In the end I've learned this, "You can't please everyone all the time".

Sorry if anything I've done has offended anyone. Regardless, I'm too old to teach many more new tricks. More'n likely, I'll just keep right on doing the same things unless I'm told by someone with the authority to do so, that I should do otherwise.

My comment wasn't directed at any one individual, I was merely replying to the question FWJ asked in his first post in this thread.

OK,
newbie time. :tiphat:
Dougster didn't scare me off of my intro post.
FWJ didn't offend me. (or is that supposed to be the other way around?) :respect:

ferret syndrome kicked in. (also known as "shiny object syndrome")
while my intro thread was being hijacked, I found the other parts of the forum and started reading - and occasionally answering - got roped into another forum (coincidentally enough run by doc) and made they syndrome worse.

fair enough?

on the other hand, jay - I agree with you noaa is a great resource for weather info. accuweather doesn't seem to be so good where I am, and weather.com is useless. Now please talk to the powers that be and have them send me more snow! (and please don't tell mobilus it's raining in NE Ks right now)

I subscribe to Accuweather's Professional service. It is expensive, but I can get a lot of data from there, and I have to admit that PSU was my alma mater and I knew a few of the people who started AccuWeather. I also like Intellicast for the weather charts. I do not even know why I go to weather.com.

Hey, Doug, for someone who did not even make it into the top 20 with their introductory post, it sure seems like you (and the rest of the regulars  ) have sure made all the rest of the posts both lively and entertaining. Besides, you have the record for the most posts, 1209 as I started typing this, even more than Doc.

More than that, looks like everybody enjoys taking a :poke: at the only OFFICIAL old member - just remember, some of us are older'n you! No :respect: !!!

Heck, just to show my respect, I would send you some more :starbucks: if I had the address!!

:yum::yum: Yup.. and I know where you have been because I have been there too.

I actually thought about this some yesterday and I like the playground analogy. New kid comes in, and we show him/her how we play on the playground. Nothing mean. Nothing rude. Just us being us. I am with Doc. What's wrong with lettin them know who we are? Hell, dougster can't control himself from the delegations any more than he can stay away from :starbucks:. :pat: The thing is, these people are going to figure out quick how they will interact with in the group. I don't want to be one of those guys that is someone totally different in a different thread. Seems childish and counter productive I guess. Why should they be here a month and then see us throwing snowballs :letitsnow: in another thread and go, "Gee I did not know these guys were like THIS!" :soapbox: OK. I am done now.:sorry:

To all of the Oldies but Goodies,:tiphat:
One should never doubt what they've posted here. It's a Public forum! There will always be the few "offended" or "scared off" readers in any public forum. When the experienced posters decide to welcome the newbies and contribute to the forum, it should be thought of as a compliment and a form of acceptance. Also, the term "off topic" could be looked at as "expanding the topic" as this is the essence of a forum and besides, that means you have something to say! The issue on this thread seems to link to other "unmentionable" issues. Doubting ones thoughts or refraining from an idea simply because it may offend or scare off someone or may be "off topic" is simply conforming and down right giving in to this new wave of socialism. At the risk of not keeping it light, I'll state the following although it will be "off topic" and certainly an "insignificant few" will be offended.

I'm proud that I live in the United States of America and I'm proud of our flag!

I'm proud that I believe in GOD! :respect:

See, I'm not concerned!:soapbox:

Whew, that was intense! Talk about expanding the topic! I was just going to give everyone my two cents but ended up giving a nickels worth. My intent through all of this rambling was to plead with all of the experienced posters to continue posting your welcoming thoughts and ideas regardless of how much the topic is expanded! Besides, this is a great way to keep this thread going!:yum: :yum: :yum:

Farmwithjunk, Dougster, jbrumberg, rback33, bindian, Doc and all of the other experienced posters,
you all are the very reason I click on the NTT icon!:starbucks: :starbucks: :starbucks:

Hi Mud,
Good post. I'll bump your rep points for that one. :thumb:
As NTT grows we will not always have tractor issues to discuss. I understand that. While I would prefer all tractor talk, that is not reasonable. What is reasonable is to come across as a fun, but knowledgeable bunch of tractor people. I believe we have accomplished that. I'm just glad you all are posting, and it's not a constant bashing of each other over tractor brands, or something silly like that. What would you think of a forum where only two of 400+ members welcomed them? Unfriendly. Welcoming the member and then babbling on about whatever is much better than a forum with no new posts.

Sorry Guys and Gals,
Didn't mean to jump on anyone. Just a stressful week and I took a jovial thread and turned it into something I shouldn't have. :hide:

No need to feel like you've stepped on anyone's toes, 'cause you haven't. One of the many advantages of being a member on NTT is the fact there is a very mature, rational, reasonable bunch of folks here that can work out our differences in opinion WITHOUT resorting to insults, inuendo, and hurt feelings.

In time as there's more members here and we have folks posting in various forums on a more active basis, I'm sure there'll be a need to "stay on topic".

I started this thread with hopes of getting a variety of responses. Looks like it did. Before I went any further with MY contribution to the nonsense, I wanted some indication I personally wasn't crossing a line where I shouldn't.

Looks like the coast is clear. Let 'er rip guys!
