I've done what I planned to do.
The database has been moved to the new server.
all html and php files have been updated.
The db was restored.
I tested via a fake domain name and all looked good.
So now I've updated the DNS entries.
This means once the DNS name ForumsForums.com is propaged to all other servers you should be able to access the new forums forums site. It will look the same as the old one except the forums are not turned off.
Lets see who the first one to access the site and post will be. Right now I can't get to it either .... but I expect to anytime now.

Somebody is able to see the new one.

I just got a new user signup notification.

Jim

Good. I'm glad to hear that is working.
I checked from a server in Chicago (the old FF server) and it sees the new IP.

To tell if your computer sees the new correct address do a:
nslookup www.forumsforums.com

if you get back the below address you are good to go:
root@dothq [/home/forumsco/public_html]# nslookup www.forumsforums.com
Server: 64.202.97.1
Address: 64.202.97.1#53

Non-authoritative answer:
www.forumsforums.com canonical name = forumsforums.com.
Name: forumsforums.com
Address: 12.109.102.223

root@dothq [/home/forumsco/public_html]#

I still can't get there.
I should have done the DNS transfer earlier in the process. It would have meant everyone would have gotten a page not found error for awhile ... but had I done that last night it would have only been for the early morning hours. :pat: Oh well, live and learn.

Me neither Murph. The FF front page is the same on both servers. You are seeing the page on the old server.
Don't know why it's taking so long to propagate. My server in Chicago knows the right address, so I thought all you folks up in that area were already in. Guess not.

I'm hoping Minn comes back and beats Michigan. :D Doesn't look good though

I am in now and see others have been posting at least as early as 9:30 am Central Time.

I will do all of the moderating until you get there Doc :hide:

You guys better get in. Skurka is having all kinds of fun by himeself :pat: :pat:

The difference for me might be due to I am now at work instead of at home. :bonk: Try cleaning out your cookies and do a reboot.

Try this:

Go into TCP/IP Properties and set DNS server to

151.168.1.8

I think that's an ATT (old SBC) principal DNS server.

I have it set as the alternate after my local ISP.

I give up! :pat:

Tracert now fails and says server not found but I'm able to access the forum
