I didn't think much about this added finned area under the bottom radiator opening of the 2011 RTV 900 . On the '05 model, I knew that open hole just in front of the radiator was an accident "waiting for a stick" to happen.Grass seed collected like crazy- even with the radiator screen in place. I realized that this thin finned piece of metal would pass off glancing sticks but didn't think about the grass seed. The difference in the amount of grass seed not collected in the radiator is huge. I really like this thing. I plan on adding a piece of the expanded metal for a better stick guard just above it because a big stick would win, but the fins work well for diverting the seed of coarse the dust still collects but wow... I can see Tommy's wheels turning on this.. bordercollie

This finned panel is on my '06. I'm thinking Kubota figured this out fairly early in the life cycle of the RTV. I found a piece of stainless steel panel with 3/4" holes drilled every 1" in staggered rows, cut it to same dimensions as the finned panel, drilled the mounting holes and sandwiched between the frame/mounting member and finned panel. It has prevented any damagn debris from entering the radiator area. The big plus, it's easy to keep clean - just hose it out from the engine compartment area.

does it bolt up ?send it to me and i'll modifie it with some expantion metal maybe that would help out . but yea i could see those fins catching uo everything in their path. is that the only way the radiator can get fresh air?

is there no way to run some kinda roof scoop to the top of the rops to suck air in there? seems kinda crazy to have a vent like that on a machine that is designed to work in dusty and grassy enviroments.maybe you should look into what we do for out mud machines we relocate the radiators way up top to keep mud and branchs on and out of it.still crazy for them to design something like that.

Hey Friends. On my '05, the area was open where the fins are now on my '11. The fins are positioned with the opening to the rear.(That is the rear tire pictured.) This knocks a lot of the grass seed away . The radiator can be cleaned by raising the seat and folding back a cover, it is open facing the engine but is at an angle. There are also many air passage holes in the plastic surround under the brake lever. I am thinking they were added to deflect objects from going into the radiator. I think if someone didn't have this and wanted it, it could be added or Peanut could build a similar thing . I'll be out of town till Tuesday evening If you need a better picture remind me then. This pictures shows the air flow holes below the brake handle Tommy. bordercollie
