I did the 3rd oil change yesterday at 249 hrs. I just can't put 200 hrs between changes yet. I had great luck with my '05 and it's high hours and I changed the oil about every 100 hrs. I am going to keep doing that routine. No blow by and no oil used on that '05 and it had (as all old members well know from me blabbing it all the time) over 4000 hrs on it. My thoughts are if it worked good , why change my routine ? .
I did blow off the crud and it seemed to come off easier with the Fluid Film under it. While the Fluid Film seemed to attract more dirt, then it made a nice covering just as members stated and looks like new underneath. I re applied the Fluid Film and started the greasing of the u joints... Now unless you get it just right ,those rear ujoints are a bear to grease...
I am going to use the floor jack and just jack the rear up so I can turn the wheels and joints as needed to reach the zerk easily. I think that will help a lot. For the interest of the previous year model owners, the xt has greasable ujoints in the rear next to the transmission are easy to reach at the right angle .The ones closest to the wheel are accessible through an oval hole on the bottom of the frame below them they are hard to get at and hard to get just right -unless you have a really small greaser fitting.. bordercollie
