Hey Will - How long is that equipment trailer of yours... and do the cops make you tie down the backhoe to the deck like that? Or do you do it simply because you can? :) Do you ever have tongue weight issues... specifically, too little tongue weight?

They also require that deck tiedown around here on full-size backhoes and track excavators, but the state cops said they'd allow me to latch vertically and chain laterally on my trailer since my backhoe is not that tall. This is good because my equipment trailer is only 20-feet long for a 21-foot long rig. Deck tiedown would mean having to position the FEL bucket way too far forward. :rolleyes:

I strap it cause my dipper is kicked into float mode, plus it's a little piece of mind.
Have no idea what my state requires.

Hey Will - Looks like a nifty arrangement. Somehow I got the impression that your tractor was longer (and heavier) than that... probably 'cause I saw the bucket tied down to the deck. I just had to ask the question because it always interests me how laws are interpreted and enforced differently state to state.
