man i went to pull the cable out my winch today and clean/oil and respool it and what do you know it don't work no more!! you see my brother brought his kids over one day and while i was gone he got into my rhino and held the winch button down and winched the cable in til the battery was dead well alteast i thought it was just a dead battery . well the day i seen it i couldn't release the winch no other way other than to turn theknob and free wheel it to release the cable from the bind but i never tried to winch the motor with the battery charged til today. and the verdict was burnt up contact and winch motor. so now i'm swappin out my winchs i'm putting my 2500lb warn back in and i have to send the gorilla off it's supose to have a life time warranty i guess i'll find out???

That's B.S. !!!!

Brother would be purchasing another winch for the utility vehicle. TODAY ~~~~ NO EXCUSES !!!!

I don't let children even sit on equipment, ALL have a thing about pushing buttons and turning on swithes !!!! They ALLare born with that problem in their blood. There is no cure for it. So if they want to play, go jump in the swamps and play with the frogs, snakes, gators ~~~~~~choke the chickens, kick thetractor tires, throw rocks at each other, I dont care, but keep you ass off of my equipment !!!! PERIOD !!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~ two guns
P.S. Know I'm sounding like a monster, but children that work around or live around here, don't mess with nothing.They don't bother nothing that don't belong to them. But you let a new one show up.You betterkeep them eyes on them, for they can damage more than the law allows ~~~~
I'm with you, Two Guns. The winch would not be Gorilla's problem--it would be my brother's. But I also know it is sometimes a bit complicated with family...
Just could not send that winch back. Lifetime warranty usally only stands for something that is caused by the manufactors defect & such. Don't really think it covers rug - rats ..... !!!!
Another note: Brother would be getting his butt out there removing the old winch, and installing the one he just purchased me. If he didn't know how, he would learn or send it to a shop and send him the bill. If I remember right, reading a long time ago, thought you said he worked in a hydralic shop or a machine shop. If that the case, he would not have no trouble replacing it and installing your brand new winch.
Few years ago, had some young boys run thew a fence. There father wanted them to " work it out" . I said o.k., we can do that. You pay for the fence, and YOUR boys can pay YOU as they get it in. That way, everybody fells like they are getting their fair share ..... He didn't like that idea at all, but that is the way it was done. And didn't have to worry about his boys hauling butt down the road being stupid in their truck again. It put a stop to that !!!!
Reminds me of the speeding ticket I got about 7 days after I got my driver's license. I was stupid and most certainly deserved it. In my town it was necessary that a minor appear in court. When there, the judge asked if I had a job. At the time I did not. That being the case, there was no fine (as it was assumed that my parents would pay it). Rather, I was sentenced to two Saturday's of working to clean up city properties. On the appointed Saturday mornings I would show up at the city hall where I, along with other young miscreants, would be met by a county bus with bars on the window and a sherrif whose job it was to make sure we really worked. I still remember toiling in the hot sun while the sherrif leaned against a tree in the shade, hand on his weapon. A vivid memory is a young father who walked by with two young boys. I could not hear what he said, but he was pointing at us and then pointing at his boys--presumably telling them that if they were not good, they would end up like us! It was a really good lesson. A fine would not have had anything like the same effect.
Times has really change >>>
Remember whenpeople had respect for what was yours. They would help you watch out for your property and equipment.We see it all the time. Peoplemessing up other peoples property justto be doing something.IRemember, when I was ayoung man,going over to other folks houses & farms. There would be tools, machines, boats, old trucks, guns, fishinggoods, just about everything a man loves, would be right within your reach. But nobody ever crossed that line, for it belonged to " that man " . And,knowing , if you did cross that line>>>>> one would have hell to pay.Your britches would be smokin', your pride shot to hell, and you would be so ashamed to even show your face.
If they would go back to burning up them butts in school ... If a " smart-ass" kid says something out of respect to a elder, see if you can slap his face off. People has to get the attention of the youger crowd, for it will get out of control. I don't want to sound like abuse the kids. But when we were younger, if one screwed up, we paid dearly for it, and not by just the parents. Other folks would spank them young-ins butts too !!!! People now days just drop off kids at shopping malls, Wal-Marts, and places like that, and expect other people to watch over there children. They need to go back to the " Old School " ~~~~~ bet they would start seeing a change.
Young people now days don't work, they don't get out and see and learn " how to" do things in life. The video games keep to many kids inside. Have you seen the commercials on TV lately ..... They use to ask parents not to let the children stay outside to much, for they might get to hot ...... Now days, they have commercials begging parents to promote children to go outside and play, get excercise, and find out what is going on outside in the real world.If young people have to much dormant or still time on their hands, they will get into something now days, and most of the time, it is not good !!!!!
I've always said: When it comes to young people, If you keep a rifle in one hand, and a fishing pole in the other, children would never get into trouble, they would be having to much of a good time hunting and fishin' >>>>>
............ this is just my 2 cents worth !!!!
I thought those winches had a circuit breaker or a thermal overload sensor. It wasn't a Gorilla brand but the electric oneI had did have circuit protection.
i'm with ya'll on the winch replacement but that would be a big arguement and it would be faster to just used the no hassle what ever warranty. but i told my dad to let him know next time his boy comes down that if he even steps foot around my stuff thats his butt. as for as a cuircur breaker there is none other than the contact and when it gets hot it will shut off i don't know why the contact didn't shut off before the winch burnt up.i'm gonna take the winch down tonight and look at it to see what happened on the inside. and i'm missing all this mud and water in the meantime !!! hopefully i'll have it all back together tonight and have it all replaced i'm just glad i didn't let my warn winch go with my hpx when i sold it.
1.........Guess this explains Tommys' battery problem a while back. I always like to hear the explanation for a problem that was reported.
2..... Winches and other add ons that draw lots of amps, in my opinion, should be wired through a relay (solenoid) that picks when the key is in the on position. Prevents activation and saves batteries. My winch and electric over hydraulic for my blade are supplied 12vdc through a solenoid only when the key is in the "on" position.
i had my gator wired like that but oneday i got stuck and the winch drew to many amps and blew a fuse the problem was the fuse was tied into my ignition system . so after that i run just my winch to the battery that way if i ever get stuck it won't overload any of my other fuses . i didn't have an inline fuse because i am the only operator of the rhino and i never over heat any thing so ever sinse i blew that fuse that day i just went with a heavy guage wire for the winch and i always keep a sharp pair of snips handy that way if anything ever shorts out witch it shouldn't the contact will fry first but if it was to i would just cut the main wire and kill the whole system. now one thing i have been thinkin of installing is my battery cutoff switch . i want to put it inline with the winch that way i can just turn it off all together. while i have it in the shop i might just go ahead and install it.
Tommy..The trick is to run the main wire for the winch from the battery through the relay (solonoid) contactor. That way the ignition system only picks the solonoid (very low current draw). the voltage is supplied to the winch only when the solonoid is picked. You could also put a switch in series to the solonoid from the ignition.so that the solonoid supplies juice to the winch only when the switch is on.
man you talkin to a down the bayou coonass here man speak dumb ass to me .lmao i don't understand all that mumbo jumbo.lol believe it or not i can hook up anything 12vlts but as for as the tecnical terms go i get lost.i used to install everones boom systems in their cars for them .i even change out the capacitors on cuircut boards in my buddys satelite boxs but as for as the names of what i do and what it's called i can't help you on that. i kinda got or know what your saying though.
Sorry Tommy.....Can't speak COONASS and can't find a Coonass/english dictionary any where. Was a pooter installer/fixer for 40 years before retiring last July. Worked on everything from them big ole IBM mechanical beasts to modern day high speed multi-blade servers and just about everything in between and storage systems from kilobytes to terabytes.................. I LIKE BOTAS BETTER...
coonass is easy to speak juss use the words thing and that thing to this thing alot and it's all good.i laways thought of takin some electronic repair classes but never got around to it i was into the fabrication stuff to much to stop doing what i was doing to switch careers in mid life and then i got hurt and now i'm thinkin i should have switched when i was thinkin of it.
