American Eagle RTV 500 Plow

I figured I'd give a little follow up on the American Eagle plow I bought for my RTV 500. I put it on today, it was quick and easy to install. 4 bolts on the front of the RTV 500 where your winch roller fairlead bolts up and you drill 4 bolts underneath the buggy to put the additional 4- 3/8" bolts to keep from tipping the mount. It looks pretty rugged, the only downside I see it that there are 4 ears that hang below the mount....they are still above the lowest point on the buggy so I don't see it as a big deal breaker for me. On to the blade and tube frame...I ordered the country style blade that rolls and throws the snow out, looks good and is well built. The tube frame is also very durable and angling is easy, you push in on a lever, rotate the blade where you want it angled and let go, the pin snaps in and locks it down. So in conclusion I think they are a pretty good value, at a price of about $600 shipped it can't be beat. Now all I have to say is :letitsnow:
 
be carefull if the 500 is anything like the 900 you can rip that plow right off the bota (I did). Then I upgraded to a 6.5' meyer plow

I'll find out, so far it's been good but we've only gotten 6" of snow so far this year.:yum: Worse case scenario I've got a nice welder to fix it with.
 
Dixie, if you want some more snow I'll give you plenty. I am in the snowbelt of Michigan, and the lake effect machine has forgot to turn off since last week.:cuss::cuss::cuss:

I'd be interested in knowing what you ripped off the Curtis plow. I've had one since the winter of 08/09 and have had very little trouble.
 
I have also had very good service with my Curtis plow, which takes a lot of abuse on my more than 2kms of plowing a gravel driveway, with more than few large rocks in the mix. Have not had any problems with the plow at all.
 
I'm in the process of building a new mount for mine and found the center pivot bolt only uses the top and bottom plate as the bearing surface. The hole looks a little worn, thinking I might get some bosses welded on the top and bottom to better support that main pivot. The a-frame on the other hand has a good center pivot.
I'll post the results in a couple of weeks when it's finished.

It was not a curtis plow it was an american eagle. I was trying to cut a bank with the end of the plow and it bent/tore the plow frame with no hesitation might as well been made out of balsa wood.

That's surprising as the mount looks pretty stout. I'll find out over the winter but it doesn't look like it's going to break that easily. How many years ago did you purchase your American Eagle plow? I'm wondering if it was redesigned due to failures, they have a very good reputation and if all of their plows were breaking that easily I don't think anyone would have much good to say about them.
 
I used the plow 2 years ago. The square tubing that the blade mounts to tore about 4" in front of the bumper mounts. I'm not saying that they dont make a good plow. Just that the 900 has power for a much bigger plow. For about the same price you can get a used 6.5' plow with power lift and angle, and not have to get out of the cab. True you will have to do some fab work to fit it to the frame but it's worth it.
 
Dixie, do you have any picks of your plow set up? I'm looking at a few and would appreciate seeing the mounting of yours and overall set up.

I ordered the 60" State style blade, it is designed to throw the snow further forward and to the side than their straight blade plow. It was around $600 complete.

I did consider others but of the aftermarket units American Eagle seemed like the most bang for your buck and I heard a bunch of positive testimonials from current users. I looked at the Kubota offered blade but at $1500 it didn't look like a good deal to me, if I didn't already have the winch I may have gone that route but for my needs the American Eagle seems like a great fit.

I can't believe the lift height on that. I don't need much, I use my bobcat with a multitude of attachments to attack the snow here. I've been thinking of specific uses for it and a manual angle would do me just fine. Do you find that when angled and plowing the furrow along your side is close to your wheels or is there still room? I'm thinking that with the tracks I'm getting adding a few inches to my width that when angled I might need the 66" so the edge of the track won't ride the plowed snow line. Won't know till I get set up though.

It's just a hair beyond the edge of the tires, if the tracks are much wider the 66" might be the way to go. The 60" was what was recommended to me by the dealer where I bought my RTV as well as the place I purchased my plow from.

I purchased mine from http://www.traxms.com/ I'm not sure if they have the cheapest price but their service was great.

I'm also looking at the cycle country plows on the site that I'm ordering the tracks from atvtracks.net. They offer free shipping on all their plow set ups and maybe I can combine a deal with the tracks. They have a state model for $495 or so. Did you look at these? I see they are offered at the site you gave me.

I guess the only concern of mine is the stoutness of the frame. As long as it is built well for the $ I'm good to go.
