Recently got a 2005 Kubota 900 RTV. It is in fair condition physically (the usual 8 year old dents, dings, and scratches) but mechanically it seems solid as a rock with 871 hrs on the ticker. I am in the process of cleaning it up and getting ready to change some fluids and replace a rear tire that has been severely cut to the point of no return. I've not really even drove it yet due to the tire. I have 2 quick questions for y'all. The lever in the driver floorboard and a red knob near the hydraulic dump bed lever? Are they differential locks? Do you have to push/pull the knob with your hand or hold the lever with your foot the entire time you want true 4x4? I live in Alabama (Roll Tide), so we have a wide range of terrain....mud, rocks, wooded areas, etc..... everything except sand and true 4x4 comes in handy often! Any answers are appreciated! I also need a new seat, foam and all, not just a cover. I looked for a while trying to find a good Kubota RTV forum and it looks like this one is perfect! Thank y"all in advance for any help. And yes I know Auburn won the other night, but that's another story....Roll Tide and God Bless America!

Hi dipgrizzly. Interesting member name. Makes one wonder about it's origins. :yum:

You posted just fine and in the right forum for RTV's. No problem at all. Welcome to Net Tractor Talk that could just as well have been named Net RTV Talk as we have lots of RTV guys and gals here with all kinds of experience. k

I'm pretty sure what you are talking about is the Diff lever on the floor. the red handled part I am not sure of. Someone with a 05 RTV model will come along and tell you for sure what those are. Also we have a post or two on tires that might help you get a matched pair for the rear.

Welcome to the party. :tiphat: Enjoy and post often. :thumb: :D

Hey dipgrizzly! Welcome to the best forum on the web. These folks on this forum become more like family than just advisers. As to your question, the lever on the floor board is the differential lock for the rear axle. Hold it down and both rear wheels pull. The knob you refer to is the differential lock. Pull it out and while the "pedal" is depressed and you don't have to keep your foot on the pedal.

I know you will thoroughly enjoy your "new" RTV like the rest of us do ours. oops, Doc beat me to the draw and gave a better answer.

To be EXACTLY correct, the owner's manual says the floor thing is the "differential lock pedal" and the knob deal is the "differential lock holder".

Oh yeah, and also, I am an Alabamian and now sick over the football game this past weekend. I had to unfriend two people on facebook because of excessive posting about that other school over there on the other side of Alabama.

Hey Bud.......Welcome aboard.......Where in Bama????......Am over just east of Rome, Ga if you are over in NE Ala..................Anway, don't know what kind of tire you need; but there is a dealer in Rome that sells the original type tires for a really good price........

Use the differential lock sparingly, I believe. Yes, I use it a lot but that lock is to me, just to enable you to use your left foot for something while getting through some mud or a slick spot. Then, maybe 100 yards later, I kick down with my heel and "pop" it off........It's a very handy thing to have and use; but I am really afraid of tearing it up..........If it looks like traction is bad, I go into 4wd first......

Yes, you have a whole learning curve for how to shift gears, get in and out of 4wd, and no nothing is wrong if it tends to throw you through the windscreen when stopping........

Anyway, welcome aboard.........God bless........Dennis

Welcome to the forum. It is a big bunch of brothers and sisters . :) :) I had an '05 and really loved and had over 4200 hrs on it when it was sold and got an '11. Great machines for sure. :)
I'm your and Wheezer's neighbor over here in Mississippi .... bordercollie

Hey dipgrizzly ....

Welcome .
I am over here in Louisiana.
You are going to love your RTV. I have a RTV 900. Read Dennis' post, he is correct on the use of the diff lock. Use it sparingly. Myself, it has to be really bad
for me to "lock 'er in" . AND, DO NOT TRY to lock in while moving. AND, if you know it's fixing to be a tuff crawl. Lock it in first, go threw it, STOP, depress with foot and release as soon as you get out of "bad spot". Like Dennis, usally just put it in four wheel drive and go.
You can read this post ( linked below ) from the other day. You can see why and when I locked in the back axle.

Will repeat what is preached. Use the Kubota Super UTD 2 fluids in
your transmission, along with only the Kubota OEM filters. Not only is this what the hydro transmission was designed to use. It will be stronger and pull so much better.
Engine oil. PLEASE use a quality diesel oil. Filter can be a Kubota or Wix etc .... Fuel filter, we use a Wix also.
If it don't already have a high rise air filter, get to thinking about it.
Doc has set us up a sticky list. Go to the accessories and take a look what others have done to improve the liking of the RTV.

Welcome to the forum! Feel free to ask anything about your RTV. We have a ton of experienced RTV owners here.

Thank you all for the information. D & D thank you for the info on the diff. lock and how to use it.
I am about 30 minutes North of Birmingham and about 30 minutes south of Cullman off of I-65 near a little town called Hayden. And yes the engine braking has got me everytime I move it.
I will probably replace all 4 tires since they are a little dry rotted on the side wall. I read another post and saw a few guys running ITP 589's and Mud Lites. I need a aggressive tread pattern with good lateral traction as well. I was looking at the Maxxis Bighorns but they are expensive or maybe the Kenda Bear Claw, but I am open to suggestions. I also need a new seat (top and bottom). I saw a picture of a RTV 900 with bucket style seats that looked pretty good but the factory style seat would be fine...If I can find one...and a 2005 owners manual would be great.
Also what is the large tank at the rear just under the tailgate?
Again thank you all for warm welcome!

That tank in the rear is the oil res. for your hydraulic lift. :) I will send you a pm tonight. bordercollie

edit: I just met a fellow from near Coker, AL. He drove over and bought my anvil I had for sale. nice fellow. :)

welcome to the forum. it might serve you well to spend some quality time and review some of the many posts that knowledgeable RTV owners have shared. some little hint you read here could save you big $$$$ and mucho problems down the road. as they say... no question is dumb. ( just remember to keep an open mind and a good sense of humor.)

What else do you have for sale ?

...... jamie
Hi Jamie,
That's anvil was the only thing that was neat. If you have something you collect let me know and I will look around. :) The rest is scrap .. like an Adams stainless fertilizer body with a bad iron frame but good stainless. If Peanut had it down there, he could cut it up and have a blast with that stainless though. I may put it in the market bulletin and just see if it would sale as is.
Then I may see about Daddy's 3 phase chain hoist...don't even know if it still works.. it was taken down in '94 working and stored. collie
