Anybody used TractorHouse

Howdy y'all I am thinking of selling my rtv900 and am wondering if anyone has used tractor house to buy or sell equipment. Just curious if it reputable and gets decent web traffic.

As for selling the "great pumpkin" I've come to the sad conclusion that while it is a beast of a workhorse, it just doesn't ave adequate suspension for my needs. I'm on the saddle of a mountain with rugged terrain and small stream crossings and I find myself riding an atv to work on parts of my property that would be readily accessible to (cover your ears) a JD 825i. I recognize the JD is a much lighter duty machine than the rtv but the reality is I can't get the RTV to the job site and most of what i do is pretty basic anyway, bucking logs and hauling them back to the ranch.

Also want to say that the greatest thing about the kubota is the folks right here on this site--best online community I've ever been part of. Is like having a living shop manual and pit crew to go with the machine!

I'll certainly continue to follow the posts---I can give up the machine but don't want to lose the pit crew!

Best,

Treehouse (aka Ben)

Never listed or bought anything from TractorHouse but have used it to try and get a value of a piece of equipment.

Have you considered Craigslist? All potential buyers are local. Maybe extend your listing into the nearby cities (S. PA, WV...).

Post some info on it here in this thread or start a new thread with "For Sale" in the subject. My Dad just bought another a couple weeks ago so that's out but I get people asking about mine now-and-then and all these people are relatively close to your area.

Hey Treehouse, was wondering which Kubota you have and why you are having trouble getting to the places you need to with it. Is it too heavy and you need more floatation with a lighter machine? Just curious.

I'm also curious about the issues.

I have tried to use tractorhouse to buy an RTV. I set thins up and got email for back hoes and everything but RTVs. Still getting those emails long sfter I closed out the ad. Oterwise I use tractor house as a sanity ck on price. Understanding we only see the asking price. Other than the garbage emails it does get the word out when you have something like that to sell.

Traction/clearance issues

Doc and Dome

Here's my assessment of the rough terrain issuses I'm having with my '06 rtv 900. Beyond the sheer weight of the vehicle, the biggest challenge is lack of independent wheel travel and low clearance. The vehicle sits quite low and is easy to high center. So that's just a basic issue and moving to a 26" tire would help a bit ut just makes the vehicle more rollover prone.

The other big issue, out in the field, or more accurately on the saddle of the mountain, is the lack of suspension travel and independent suspension means it is very hard to get weight onto both drive tires, lack of true 4wd makes this worse because I can't het both front wheels pulling to compensate for the lack of weight on/grip from the lower of the rear wheels when on an uneven surface.

So this is just a question of Geometry and transmission set up. I know there are work arounds I can do, like 26" grim reapers to get some clearances and more grip but by my lights that is just trying to make the vehicle into something it isn't--a true all terrain vehicle. The low-end grunt of the diesels and heavy muddier tires can make it a good swamper but when you have rough, rocky and uneven terrain there is no substitute for flexible travel, clearance and true 4wd.

I know the kubota is a much heavier duty machine than the JD. But, for my purposes the heavy duty part is getting the vehicle to the worksite with
chainsaws and tools. After that it's just sawing, stacking and hauling. And, I only run about 100 hours a year.

I got the rtv becuase rhinos would get you there, but they were too much of a toy when it came to payload. The 825i seems to bridge the gap--capable work machine with atv-like capabilities.

Seems like moving to the JD is a better compromise than trying to make the RTV into something it isn't. Better for someone else to use the rtv in accordance with it's design.

To be clear though...I ain't saying there's anything wrong with the RTV, it's just that for what I do it isn't the right machine.

GREAT explanation TreeHouse. Thank yor sir for taking the time.
And I have to agree no one machine can possibly fit the bill for every user. That's why there are so many different machines on the market.

How about a few pics and price you want for your RTV. A neighbor has talked of one but can't afford a new one. If the price is right he might see fit to pull the trigger.

Look down the list of forums and you'll see the classifieds ...or just post the info here, either is fine by me.

Thanks for the reply Treehouse. I have not had a problem with mine like you have but the rtv x models are independent suspension on the front and rear which will make a lot of difference in rough terrain. Not only for the go factor but in a smoother ride. Don't know if all the x models are independent on the rear or not. The one I have is a rtvx1100. I have not had to pull the winch line yet and have had it on some mighty steep and rough muddy terrain.
I wish you well on your machine choice and hope you find one that suits your needs and gives you good service.

Doc, my machine is 200 miles away at the moment so can't post any pictures. Ive got on craigslist with a 21550 zip code (no pics yet).sorry I don't know how to send you a link to the cl add but I'm all thumbs.

Inam going to try to get out to the property this weekend but there's a mess of sow between e and the machine.

If I make it out I'll post pics, etc.

That's about 160 miles from my place.

Guessing Doc is about the same (but in a different direction).
