Big Orange to the Rescue, new super hero!

A 2 day storm dumped 16 inches of blowing snow in our area and some evil has possessed at least 3 tractors in the neighborhood causing them to die. I spent the day digging out neighbors driveways and farm yards. One neighbor was down to 3% of LPG and the propane driver refused to even attempt getting off the main road when the Big Orange Hero arrived over the hill.

Lots of people taking about buying RTV's around here right now.
Nice to have something that not only I can depend on, but the neighbors also.

Great job in helping the neighbors!

I may not have explained the situation well enough, the weather was truly awful, temperatures were below -30, perhaps -40 with the wind chill. Most tractors in the area couldn't, wouldn't and possibly shouldn't start. But the little RTV fired right up without being plugged in and rose to the occasion. Super K being the hero, not me in any way shape or form.

Love having a great piece of equipment that will be there when I, or anyone else needs it.

I'm sure everyone here knows what I mean.

Thanks BC

Out of curiosity, was your RTV garaged or otherwise kept out of the extreme cold? Mine has a really hard time starting below about 20 degrees.

Super K was just the tool, you were the hero. Batman's car or belt doesn't get the credit as it's just the tools of the one doing the hero work.

It, the tractor and the JD skid steer are in the garage or the barn. The trick I found to proper cold weather starting is to turn the key for the glow plugs till the fuel gauge needle stops moving (usually full) then fire it up. The skid steer (also a 2010) by comparison needs a minimum of 3 full glow plug cycles and then it shakes, farts and protests like crazy. Super K just settles down to a nice purr.

This is the reason why I always dump some kerosene in my equipment about this time of year. Amish boy just dumped 5 gallons in my skid steer yesterday and will dump another five in the backhoe tomorrow. I add about 1 -2 gallons to the RTV tank as well. Non ethanol high test gas in the generator and stabil as well. When extreme cold sets in only properly prepped vehicles will start and raun right. Good job on the Kubota to dig folks out. I went through this back in the blizzard in the 90's. Folks heard I knew how to start gelled up diesel backhoes and I ran for 2 days thawing and thinning fuel to get them going.

Nice thing about living in the Great White North is that the Petro companies sell a winter formula diesel this time of the year. We don't worry about the winter grade gelling up until the temperature drops below -55. I plug in the equipment any time its below -40. I also add a magnetic belly pan heater to the hydraulic tank at those times.
Tomahawk is in the middle of oil country and if the equipment, all diesel operated, stops working, millions of dollars per hour would be lost by various producers, drillers, logistics companies and a multitude of support businesses. So the oil companies know what side of their bread is buttered and they take care of the formulas for us.

This is great. I tip my hat to you friend.
Helping others is what life is all about !!!

People like you is what makes history, and people don't forget it !!!!

We down here in the south. Can't imagine it getting that cold. Heck, mud puddles down here get a little ice in them. People get to talking about the
" big freeze is fixinig to show up " . It's funny ..... :wall:

We don't know anything about cold. All I know is, when my feet get cold.
I am not worth a nickel. Older I get, the worst it gets. There was a few
from this site teached me how to "layer" my socks and what to put next to my
skin to keep my feet from freezing. And it helps some too !!!!

.......... two guns

Good job CP. Way to be prepared and there to help your neighbors. :tiphat: And I've found those types of situations to be kind of fun. Folks rise to the occasion and all help as they can. You get to see your neighbors in a different light. Petty differences are forgotten in the face of a common goal ....and you can make some new friends. All good. Way to go.
