I would like to paint my silver front bumper BLACK...................My (want to be paint expert) friends say that I can't lightly sand and get a can of rustoleum and paint my bumper because the paint won't stick because the bumper was painted with powder coat that was electrically charged. They say that the paint will chip and flake off.........

OK I need your opinions.............CAN I PAINT MY BUMPER BLACK AND HAVE NO PROBLEMS?????

I painted mine. Instead of black, I used the ROPS gray.

Mine hasn't flaked off but if I run a branch or something hard across it, it will brush off. I painted it a year or 2 ago and only if you get within a couple feet of it and look closely you can see small scratches or dings.

I don't see why you couldn't paint it.I know a man down here that has painted two of his RTV'sbrush guards!!!!

I would just ruff it up with light grit sandpaper really good. PRIME it with a good acrylic primer. And go back with a acrylic base paint, color of choice !!!

Right before I painted the primer, I would clean it up first, get all dust and what ever you sanded off, then , wipe it down with denatured alcohol good also, that will help much also !!!!!!

You can put a Line-X coat on the bumper for $50. I had mine sprayed on when I got the bed done. I have already pushed over trees, run the nose of the machine into the dirt and hit the backhoe. Still looks good.

Thanks Bczoom, Tommy, Two Guns, Pivatic1....

Instead of straight black, the Rustoleum "hammered" looks pretty good. I've used their hammered gray on a couple places and it matches the ROPS gray pretty nicely.
