Brake fluid change.

Had some time in the shop so I thought I would go after the brake fluid change on my 2006 RTV 900. Pulled the front wheels to find a cap that is held down by a bolt that a 10 mm wrench fits and under that are the bleeders. Then on both frame rails on the rear are the bleeders for the rear. The old fluid had turned yellow and the new fluid is clear. I sucked the old fluid out of the master cylinder first. Didn't take much time and two containers of new fluid is all it takes, and the wife pushing the pedal.

Good job. I have an 06 also, I've only had it a little over a year. Don't know if the brake fluid has ever been changed so I should got to that once things thaw up a bit. Thanks for the heads up.

The WSM says change brake fluid every 2 years.

Never seen that done before by anyone, car/truck/bike/atv owners.

Brake fluid absorbs water, turns color and starts to gum up over time.

My thought would be change it every 5 years at least.

Easy to say, but suspect only a few will do.

I got a bike or two and in that world they preach every year if not every other, I watch the fluid color. It depends on how any machine is treated to some degree as to when it really needs to be changed out. I have the set up ready, clear tube to fit over the bleeder and an old tall whiskey bottle to catch the mess. Where I formerly worked the only time fluid got changed was when a wheel cylinder or master leaked and even then you didn't do a flush. Things do turn nasty in there. I figure I am in for the long haul with my stuff so this is cheap insurance. We have a ice storm going on right now so I think I will go after the ATV brake fluid and put another log on the fire.
