Busy getting ready for winter!

muleman RIP

Gone But Not Forgotten
Well we had our first hard frost last week and the leaves are turning fast. Been working installing new 14ga. wire around the yard, garden and barn for an underground fence system. Got a little over 1000 ft. in so far. I have a lot of wood to get cut now that it has finally cooled down. Started the wood boiler yesterday. I looked at the propane tank gauge and it was down almost a half tank since spring. Bota has hauled at least 5 beds full of rock and a few more to go as I finish up the last bit of yard out front. Wife talked neighbor into giving up an old lilac bush. Dug it out with the backhoe and hauled it up here in 3 bucket loads and split and transplanted it into 9 individual bushes. That thing was bigger than my dump truck! The bota will be getting a workout next week hauling wood. Will try to post some pics.

Yes, is sure is a busy time of year. My wood for the OD boilerhas been in for a few months now. The wife has been bringing in the garden and all those cooking and canning smell filling the air one realizes what is just around the corner. HUNTING SEASON NO LESS.

Ditto here on getting ready for winter. No frost here yet.

I've been planting grass but running out of time for that.

How are you putting in your invisible fence? We used a gas powered edger to cut a small ditch and got 1000' installed in about 3-4 hours.

You meaninvisible fence like in adog fence. I thought there was one model out there that used a transmitter. That was good for like a 90 foot radius.

I used a friends single bottom plow on the back of my little Satoh tractor to plow a trench. My ground is so rocky I use up 2 blades on my edger just going around the wife's flower beds. I dug it loose with the backhoe behind the barn as the plow just bounced along. When the spring thaw hits the clay and these sharp flat rocks just destroy the cheap 20 ga. wire you get with the fence. In the summer it is like iron but when it gets good and soaked my tractors and skid steer will leave ruts and break the wire if I don't have it down at least 4-6 inches. I ran it in conduit under the road and behind the barn and where it crosses flower beds. I easily picked out 3 skid steer buckets of rocks just from the narrow trench cause this will be the last time I put the wire in. The radio wireless units would not let me cover the various buildings and about 2-3 acres like the wire does. I bought a wire testing unit with this fencer so I can find a break if needed.

Muleman,

I just got done digging a 70 foot trench with the excavator for a neighbor to put in his hot water plastic hoseout to his outdoor furnace........Only went down 3 feet and put insullation around the pipes. He also put in two extra plastic hose in case something doesn't work in a couple of years.........Used my 12 inch bucket.......He then put the insulation and pipes into a 4 inch sewer pipe. He then had me add some 2B limestone and pushed in back in with the skid steer......

That extra pipe is a good idea. We put extra pipe down too when we ran water and such out to our electric gate. I took pictures of it before it was covered so I could remember where it was and scanned the measurements into my computer so I could make a cd of it all. It is scary how quickly a person can forget just where the lines are after the grass covers it up.

bordercollie you got some pipe there huh rusty the reason you can't remeber anything it you got a cuncusion when you rented one of them moonwalks for a party and you was jumpin in it and wilomena decided she was gonna join you and she jumped in .she launched your but three parishses away we picked you up in livingston they said you was walkin the streets and didn't know who you was or where you come from so they looked at your aarp braclet and it had my number to call incase of a emergency.glad yo back wit us the memeory qwill come back sooner or later.
