Guys I am buying a new 2008 RTV900 ...Im getting the diesel in camo ...I plan to use it on about 5 acres that I own and then for deer hunting here in Kentucky ...I have read a lot of positive feedback about this unit but also some negitive ..such as no power ...not good in mud...shifting gears...fuel cap problems ...air filter problems ... I addressed those with my dealer who I respect and he has assured me the newer models have had most of those problems corrected ... is that right or do they still have a lot of problems? Do I need to get a winch and if so what size .... any other items that are just a must?

Hey Scott,

Congrats on your new RTV!!!!

As noted by your dealer, most of the issues have been addressed. Most anything else you encounter will be corrected by driving technique. Once you drive it a little, you'll get used to it. Post any questions or issues you have.

A winch is a great addition. Will the primary purpose be for getting yourself un-stuck or will you be using it to drag things (e.g. logs) to the RTV? The RTV will go most anywhere so it's unlikely you would need it but it's good insurance. We have a lot of threads discussing winches so I'd propose you do a search on the forum. In general, a 3000# winch is about minimum and Ramsey or Warn are the most commonly installed. Based on your usage, you'll need to decide whether to install "in the pocket" (inside/under the hood) or use an exterior mount.

In that you got the rec. model, I'm assuming you got the ATV tires. They're pretty versatile and for many, they do fine. If you had the worksite tires, different (aftermarket) tires may be needed as they slick over in the mud.

The most common and preferred options are a roof and windshield. If you're in dusty conditions, the high mount air cleaner is also recommended. If you're going off trails or there's a lot of sticks and such where you ride, the stick stoppers made by Tommy would be something worth considering. You may also find that more lighting helps. The people on this forum love to spend money (especially other peoples) so we can come up with a great big list of options you should have. I'd propose you drive it a bit and see what you find would be beneficial based on your driving conditions.

PS. Did you sell your BX?

Brian thank you for all the great information, it reaffirms my confidence in Kubota ...I will mostly be using this on the 5 acres I have ...my wife has been wanting something like this for awhile and this is most likely an over kill but I will also use it for deer hunting...I did get the top and a tire upgrade but I hope I can get a windshiled made for it for less then the $600.00 quoted from the dealer .... I feel that I got aprettygood deal on this 900 ...it is new ..a 2008 model in camo .... I think it listed for around $11500 he offered it to me for $10900 and then I sprung a trade on him ...its a small Kubota tractor that I aquired when I bought the house...about a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10...about a 12 year old B7100 ...pretty good old tractor but no power steering ..I wasent using it...Ive been trying to sell it locally but with little luck ...anyway we traded for $7400.00 difference ....I hope I got a good deal anyway ...as for the BX, I had aquired it also when I bought this properrty,I traded it last year for the ZD331 mower ...I needed a large mower to take care of the 5 acres ....again thank you for all the information ...this forum is great ...I will give some feedback in coming weeks on my new 900 .... I LOVE my ZD331

OK, this doesn't sound right to me.

What is a "tire upgrade"? It already comes with the ATV tires. What did they upgrade you to?
$12353 sounds a bit high to me. Does that include the winch, roof, taxes...?
It sounds like you got the winch from the dealer. It's probably a bit late now but if you purchased that winch elsewhere and installed yourself, you could have saved a bit of money.

BC Im just relating what the dealer told me in regards to MSRP...I could care less what they ask for it my main interest was how much difference I needed to pay plus my old tractor..that MSRPwas supposed to be the Recreational model in camo ...as for the tire upgrade it has turf type tires and I had them put on a more aggressive tire ...the Warren winch is a 3000lb and installed it was $500.00 ....

Something just don't sound right about the tire thing. Not knocking nobody, or saying it didn't have turf tires on the unit. BUT, Kubota Recreation RTV's comes from the factory with ATV tires on them !!!! Wonder, somewhere if the tires wasn't taken off for a swap-out, and they just replace them BACK on with the ATV tires >>>>>>> Doesn't really matter, as long as your happy !!!!!

Scott,

That is a fine machine you have there, it will serve you very well !!! Let me make a suggestion.

If you don't ever purchase anything else for this unit., PLEASE do your self & your machine a favor, and get you a V4271 Kubota High Rise Instake system on it. You can install it yourself, takes just a few minutes, and will save your machine & your pocketbook in time. Trust Me >>>> This is something I wish Kubota would install from the factory ...... I cannot stress this enough, for the cab forms a vortex which funnels dust and dirt INTO you air filter. After just about 9 hrs. on mine, thank God, I just happen to check mine, and the thing was already full of dirt & dust, and I haven't even really been nowhere yet. So that told me something >>>>>>>>

Always staying on top, there is a :

Kubota RTV Parts/Accessories list >>>>> there you can find just about anything a owner could ask for >>>>>> plus, you can make your own list to help others !!!!

TG thank you for the heads up on the high rise...can I buy that at my local Kubota dealer and if so any idea as to the cost? As for the tire upgrade I was not charged for that ..I suppose I should have said he gave me a choice between the ATs and the turff tires ...
