Cheap windshield- Bordercollie style

I used 1/2" pvc pipe I screwed the film to the pipe used duct tape and screwed the tape with sheet metal screws. Easy to put on and remove even made doors for winter with pvc and clear window film

Well I'd really like to see pictures of that one.

Yes, a windshield please. How did you attach yours? How does it remove?
Doors sound altogether a bit ambitious. They'd have to come off real easy - one of the things I love about my x900 is the ease of getting in and out, from either side.

I'll have to start with a roof.
Then a rear wall because when I was hauling wood chips the cab got kind of covered inside. Glad it wasn't manure.

Time for an update: :) I decided to make another windshield (a cheapie). I used the same type of wood but recut it - just used screws, glue and sturdier plastic. - still need to finish the wind deflector on the bottom and top. It comes off quickly and will knock the wind and rain off which is what I am after. I still need 2 more of the DJ clamps for the bottom frame but will probably stick with the covered copper wire there for now. As soon as I get that scale off , I will be much happier. collie

Nice.

I am always surprised at the many uses of RTVs.

We need to see more threads like this with operator innovations displayed.

P.S. what the heck is that gismo hanging off the passenger side??? :)

I really like that windshield. Great ideas and execution! The split windshield makes me think of my old Jeep. I miss it. I had a '42 Ford GPW when I was in college. It got away years ago.

Thank you Nevadablue. :) I had a jeep's window in mind when I built it. I can swing the lights out of the way to remove or install it and the tight fitting DJ clamp holds it well.. I got so cold the last cold snap that I decided to go ahead and put this together since the window pair from last year was a mess.
It would sure be nice to have that jeep back for sure- I understand how you feel.Nothing is impossible, maybe you might could find a similar one and fix it up one day. :)
Oversized , Thanks, that is a calf weighing scale and sling. All of our registered animals must be weighed when newly born and then tagged.
Mama's can get feisty so this is much faster than the old days when we would catch 'em put em in a tow sack and use a sliding scale on a truck's stake bed .. Mama's didn't like that one bit.. Now with the 'bota and 4whlr ,a truck never goes in the pasture. (Also visibility is so much better than a truck .( ingrassy pastures). collie

Collie,
I remember my grandma quit checking cattle in the truck (a international scout flatbed) in the early eighties after running over several calves in tall grass. After that she went to atv's then utv's. She would not approve of me always checking cattle in the trucks...but my cattle are miles away...and I have the loud siren under my front bumper....so the cows and calves come running when they hear it (most of the time). I normally drive down the same trails. She didn't really approve of using the dogs to gather the cattle...but the dogs sure ball them up good so you can drive them to the pens.

Collie,
Very nice work. I like seeing how folks make the units work for us. That is a very nice mount, where did you get that? I grew up on a small dairy in northeast PA, but reading and seeing how you folks farm warms the heart.
Again nice work on the windshield!

Curt

Thank ya'll. :) A couple of years ago, I thought I didn't need / prioritize a windshield and knew I couldn't afford to buy one like I needed- too many limbs slapping and running through the cab.. So the first time around, I made one out of the heat shrink window film. That was excellent on the wind and as I said earlier in the original post.. I was amazed I had no wind from the front coming in on me. I could feel my nose and my eyes didn't hurt.. :) Wow!! and super cheap !! Now Limbs were a different matter as Mark posted earlier and so, I used a roll of clear packing tape to make a successful repair or 2.. or 3. ;) but still, I was so grateful for the lack of cold wind..
This time, I spent $36 including delivery on some plastic and made 4 individual panes ,, so when ruined, I can replace them individually. I ordered them but could have gone to Lowe's and saved on the 17 $ included in that price for postage but I was too busy and so just ordered it. ( This about the thickness of a good face shield)
I had 2 of the DJ clamps left over from making my homemade console and used them to mount the top to the roll bar. I am using the insulated wire in the bottom till I decide to order more of the DJ clamps. Years ago BCZoom suggested getting them and he is 100 % on the recommendation.
I put a piece of old angle I had across the bottom for support and now am slowly finishing up the "design" I had a few pieces of the clear plastic left over and used that to block air (a lot pours through this area) between the hood and that support. It worked super yesterday. No wind to speak of..and the hood will still open. I'm not finished trimming this yet but had to get moving so I just posted a picture before finished. Also am going to put some rainx on the window and see how that does. Also, there is no rain in my lap now. Must say that since snow is rare here, I an using the lightweight plastic but would rethink if I was further north.
The windows aren't lined up but when I get that scale head off ,They will be. :)
link for the clamps follow.. order extra as you will LOVE them !! The bolts in the clamps are short but.. they can easily be changed out with longer ones.
