I participate in several forums. A BMW motorcycle owner's association, an Airstream user/maintenance, and of course good ol Tractor By Net. Have done so for several years now and have noticed several trends.

Airstream owners are beginning to talk about arming themselves when on the road, where NOT to travel like larger cities or areas, how to defend one self on the road, concerns of theft from their rig at campgrounds, security at home, and very lately where and HOW to set up a secure compound using the RV as a base.

Tractor by Net responses about home security and weapons is discussing more and more about taking action to defend one's liberty and security. A year ago I posted a thread here and there about the best rifle for home defense and this year the one about the shotgun for my wife down at the barn. Last year about half of the responses were do not do it because of many reasons. Taking another's life, inadvertant damage to property, and legal issues headed the dont do it. This year, NOT a single don't do it response.

The BMW motorcylce guys are weird. Last year with the rifle question, I almost got banned and had a 90% dont do it response. It pretty much continues this year. Most of these guys are the kum by yah crowd, voted the current administration in, and live in suburbs and cities.

Went to a gun shop yesterday along with Walmart to pick up some shells for wife's new shotgun/christmas present. NO large shot 20 ga. or 12 ga available and on backorder into Feb.

Anyway, just thoughts; but seems that folks though NOT organized ARE taking individual action. What will be the stimulus for enough is enough?..........God bless OUR Country.............Dennis

........ two guns

We had some hippies invade the paid camp site late at night and refused to leave. I went down the canyon to get the Sheriff but before I left I got the Berreta out and told my wife to use it if needed. She could hear them outside saying that we have bad karma (we call it BAD KARMA now) and something about a gun in the trunk, I'm sure that was BS. She had a hard time keeping the dog under control in the motor home with all the commotion and probably made them keep away. I sure miss that dog.

They are running an ad for a Utah carry prmit class that is supposed to be legal in 29 states. may have to check it out. I know when the wife and I go camping with the mini motor home we just got I will have mine along permit or not. The days of traveling and not having to worry are over. Same for being secure in your own home. I have 2 german shepherds, 2 jack russels and a pomeranion and plenty of loaded guns. The only time I ever called the sherrif they had to stop at the neighbor to ask where I lived even though my name is on top of a BIG mailbox in 2 in. letters and my house number is on a post at the end of my lane in 4 in. hi-vis numbers. You have to be able to protect yourself and your property these days. I have not shot anybody since 1982 but won't hesitate to do it again.

I have always said "I would sooner be tried by ten than carried by 6". The post at the start of my driveway has a sign "I do not call 911". Jerry

Well, here's one of my recent stories.

My 8-year-old son is in Cub Scouts. The achievements for this week were to go over home safety. This included everything from fire escapes to emergency numbers to answering the phone and door.

So, I'm going through the subject matter with him and we're on the subject of what to do if someone's at the door. OK, he knows that if I'm not in the house to stay super quiet and peek through a window to see who it is. It comes to the scenario where he doesn't know who it is... I ask my son what do do if the person is no longer knocking but trying to get in. In his most serious face, and a little confused, he asked "Are you supposed to use a 9mm or a .45?". I love my boy...

if he's there by himself i would sugest not being quiet if they are wanting to break in thats what they want a empty house and if he's quiet thats just what they will think they have"an empty house". now if they are knockin and he's scared i would tell him to yell out dad/uncle will there's someone at the door if he does this then they will think there are two adult men in the house and will probably flee.

I consider carry permit only to be carried on my body, I don't need a permit to have it in my home or rv and I'm sure every gun owner feels the same. I love BC's post, personally I like 9mm LMAO.

i think a person should be able to have what ever gun they want in their rv simply because if your living in it it's considered an extention of your home .

I understand your point but at 8-years-old, I don't leave him home alone. At the worst, I'm in my shop or maybe a neighbors but in either case, I'm keeping an eye on the house and he knows where I am and can get to me quickly. A person can't get to our door without us first getting a good warning from the dog and the dog is VERY protective of my son. The dog gets more excited seeing me than the kids but if I start rough-housing with the kids (in play, but the dog doesn't know that), she'll attack me. Oh, the answer is 9mm. The reason is two-fold. 1) You can't legally shoot an intruder when they're outside of the house. #2) A .45 is too much gun for anyone in the family (except me).

9mm is a good round very past and has more penetration that other handgun rounds alot of people say they don't like the 9mm because of size but a .45 is slow and will not penetrate a multylayer cloths person in the winter time but that speedy 9mm will. another thing is i put hollow points in my guns in the summer and regular copper jackets ball ammo in the winter because a hollowpoint will hangup and get slowed down alot on heavy clothes but a smooth ball ammo will slide through them clothes alot easier .you still got that bunker you was trying to sell a while back?thats what i need down here a nice bunker.

Show me some ballistics reports where a 9 beats a 45. I can assure you, winter clothing, no matter how thick won't stop either.

I still have the bunker. Along with the outdoor furniture and stuff I don't want to freeze, I moved the kids summer toys up there a couple months ago but shoved them in a corner. It's time to get them out and setup in the bunker so they can play (basketball, soccer, dodgeball, bicycles/scooters/skateboards/inline-skates...). It's often too cold or too sloppy this time of year for them to do much outside. There's a few inches of snow on the ground but the ground itself isn't frozen so it's not good for much of anything.

when we shoot at diferent objects it always seemed that the faster moving 9mm penetrated further than the .45 now on soft targets the .45 did make amuch bigger hole but it was slowed down alot on penetration.
