It was on TV last Thursday night. Did anyone catch it?

It was a great show talking about the population of wild hogs.

I did have to laugh-out-loud a few times...

During the video, they had interviews of people from all over. Well, they had some Russian's on there so they had captioned what he was saying on the screen.

Then.... they put on some folks down near Tommy. Sure enough, they had to put captions on the bottom so people could understand what they were saying. Having been here for several years, I've learned to understand Tommy and his kin so I could understand it but thought it was really funny that TDC felt the need to caption what was being said.

bczoom,

People don't have a clue what is going on with these animals. I've never seen it this bad ever. We take 'em out all the time. It's a full time job by itself trying to keep the hogs from just overrunning and taking over property.

Seems like we kill 'em, and twice and many seems to show up out of nowwhere >>>> And yes, they are getting bigger and meaner.I've had many dogs in years killed by wild hogs. They can tear a hole in you faster than you can bust a egg >>>> it's just that simple. We see them, we take allout all we can ....Done got so baddown here, that the state has give us permits to hunt them at night .

yea them hogs are getting bad i was riding with the wife through the canefields and we noticed how chewed up the cane was in certain spots.i always pack a gun when we walk .try containing five chihuahuas and a black lab when they get a scent they go.

I know therehave beenmany times, when trailing deer, you run across some mean boar hogs ....Hogscan smell that blood, and will beat you to YOUR kill.... Even have had them chargemany times. Even gotscars to show from some of them battles >>> They cut you like a very sharp blade. And they will kill you if they have a half a chance. Keep that .45 with me at ALL times ..... saved my butt more times that I like to remember >>>

And it is not just the big boars, the sows will eat you up too. Especially if you grab one of them piglets, ( yep, they are naturally pin striped ) let one start squelling , you got a mean sow a coming at you. Then you introduce her to Colt !!!! Oh yes, it's a rush !!!!!

TWO GUNS

If you would lose the hat you could get closer to them. Heck I can't blame them for running when they see you.

hey twoguns i just seen on the news that they was looking for a drunk hog hunter that stole a cone from the raod working crew and was last seen doing 25mph on a orange bota going east bound on I-10 . some witnesses say hey was yelling"FREE LOVE!!he was also said to be sining "TINY BUBBLES" cops tried the pit manuever but it wasn't sucess full du to the weight of the bota and the weight of the driver plus cops said he had some kinda speacial tire on the bota that wouldn't alow it to slip. they deployed spike strips but the cop said all it did was bend the spikes. the officer who deplowyed the strips was in fear of his life when the driver "twoguns" chunked out his empty bottle of MD20/20 plum supreme wine.there is a chopper folowing the bota right now because the cops cars with their masive engines was not competition for the deisel bota with the idol control. some pedestrians was in fear of thier life when the bota made it to the little town of NEW ORLEANS where speeds got up to 26mph cops said they have never seen a vehical go that fast. some people described the nightmare as a huge orange pumpkin with the travelosity noem friving itkids was a screaming and some saifd they heard sining again from the bota as he mowed down parking meters. he was heard sining "THE WHEELS ON THE BOTA GO ROUND AND ROUND " just like in the travelocity mercial. folks if you don't need to be on the road the department of homland dumbass's is asking you to please stay inside and off the road this guy is crazy and said he will stop for nuthin but another bottle of MD20/20. now i had a lip reader get on the chopper and he zoomed into the face of the driver and what he said is the driver is yelling"DEATH TO ALL PIGS!!" we are taking them threats really seriuos and the cops have even put on their vest for added prtection.people this is a very grave situation we have here.stay tuned for further updates.

Two Guns,

When farmers really start hollering real loud and the food start shortages start showing up in the supermarket the state will step in and poison them with aerial drops. The rabies up here came from down south so we are told. Canada did not want it to get into their country because of the fur trade so in conjunction with New York and a few other border states they now do aerial drops. Fish meal laced with Rabies vaccine is whats dropped. I have flown with them as a volunteer. Canada supplys the planes(twins engine Otter's)and crews.

Now that really interesting Deerlope >>> many states down here needs to start dropping something ....

Thanks for sharing this !!!!

.............. two guns

down here they like to let the problems slide til they are to big to even try to fix. look at them nutrias they eatin the land right from under us.

well as for as the season i have no idea why they put a season on them they should be alowed to be hunted year round. back when fur was in we didn't have this problem but whenthe fur market dropped out the population grew veryfast.

I may be wrong, but that season is for trapping furbearers, which is not only for nutria >>> The season is for beaver, bobcat, coyote, gray fox, mink, muskrat, nutria, opossum, riverotter, red fox, raccoon and skunk.

Nutria is considered as a nuisance animal. One can shoot them all year round . They are also considered as crop distroying varmints. But you can only trap them from Nov. 20 - March 31 >>>> in the winter months, for there fur is much thicker and will sell in the fur trade. Think that is the way they have it set up. The only way one can sell a hide is to trap the critter ..... No shooting and selling >>>> You shoot, you must leave him or eat him, ( or feed 'em to the gators in the warmer months )>>>>

As for the pigs a food source can be dropped to them that will make the abort their young in the very early stages, or something to make them totally sterile.

Didn't realize that nutrias can be eaten. The Louisiana G&F site has a video on how to dress them. Look like a rabbit - wonder if they taste like chicken - could use them at popeyes LOL jerry

Being from Louisiana, I've eat just about anything >>> BUT, I could never make myself eat a Nutria Rat, NEVER !!!

And please, don't ever make that statement about Popeyeshaving Nutria on the menu ....Popeyes is my most favorite chicken house.I've just about got tears in my eyes thinking that Popeyes could have a Nutria in the kitchen.

Back in thelate '80's & early '90's, trappers used to sell the hides and get good prices, and also sell the meat to commercial gator farms forfeed . Gator farmers used to swear thatNutria meat made the gatorsgrow faster and get biggerquicker than regular feed ...

I cannot get that Popeyes and Nutria out of my mind >>>>Popeyes has GREAT CHICKEN MISTER !!!!!

i had some buddies that used to eat them they said it was pretty good meat but i never could bring myself to eat them.now if i was starvin yup i would much down on one.

Two GunsShouldn't have put nutrias and popeyes together in the same paragraph. My humble aplology>

I am completely amazed about the waynutrias are treated by Louisiana G & F. A limit of 40,000 for trapping and thenthe requirements if you shoot one - must be buried or taken off the land - must almost make a report of where, when and why you shot one. Seems like they would invite out-of-staters toCOME ON DOWNand have soom fun. We spend a lot of money on hunting prairiedogs and theyare a varmint - period! Seems like the nutrias should be classed as a varmint. jerry

ne-sd,

Apology accepted !!!!

Well the truth to be known, theagentsLouisianaG & F turn their heads on the matter. I bet you would not find one thatwould say anything to anybody abouttaking of theNutrias. And I do agree with you, they should be classed as a varmints. They must breed like crazy, for I know of several places that we ( up to seven men ) have went threw and took every one that was seen, trying to cut them out . But just like hogs & gators, you take one, five more seems to show back up, somehow >>>>>

Much of what you read is just that , something on paper for the " folks in the offices to see " >>>> But out in the real world where this all takes place. We try our best to regulate it ourselves. For just like the gators, the " law makers " a few years ago, back in the '80's, said that they ( the gators ) were getting to few .The reason I believe was they were making way for the commercial gator farmers to make what they could, and cut the true trappers and gator hunters out of theirrevenues ....Many of us down here knew better, but what has happened the Alligator population is way out of control. They are coming into peoples yards. Showing up in sub-divisions where children play. Just yesterday, they was a 10 foot gator in the middle of a sub-division that had to be taken out. Last week, there was over seven that had to be taken out, two just a few hundred yards from a school house .... So what that being said, gator season on paper is in September, but in reality, it's all year round, just like the Nutrias. Keep in mind, this is Louisiana >>> The Land of Hospitality, Unless You Don't Belong !!!!

.......... two guns

heck man we ran up on a 10 footer in the middle of a cane field we killed it and then the next day i went back to track it and that gator came from a patch of woods that we have our trials on. there is a bayou in the far back so i ran my rhino with the odometer and it was almost 2 miles from the bayou to where we found him.the gator hunter who came and shot him had him cleaned and gutted and put the meat in my icechest for me i still got about 15lbs of the meat left. he told me he has freezers full of meat and that sometimes he has to chunk it because he has so much he does try to give it away but alot of folks turn their haeds at it but hey das some good meat yea!!
