Firewood

<FONT color=#0000ff>I use the rtv to winch in trees off the trails and haul the cut pieces back to the garages. I have had the back of the rtv totally filled with wood and had no problem hauling up the mountain or on the trails. </FONT></P>


<FONT color=#0000ff>At home in York county I burn the wood in a fireplace andat the mountains in Tioga county we burn wood in a fire ring for cooking and camp fires.</FONT></P>


<FONT color=#0000ff>Use a 16" Stihl in the mountains and a 16" Jonsered at home, both work great although the Stihl can be a bit finicky when starting in cold weather. The Poulan retired after 30+ years.</FONT></P>

Don't know what all ya'll have had for chainsaws, but , at one time, I had a old commercial Poulan, that thing was the HEAVIEST damn saw . It was easier to tote a 5 gallon bucket of hydraulic fluid than it was that saw.</P>


Two years ago, went over to some property in Mississippi, to clean up some limbs and small trees around some deer plots that has grew that summer. On the way back, stopped at a Wal-Mart and while I was in there. Somebody stole my saw out of the back of the farm truck..... I was happiest man in the world !!!! That damn saw needed to belong to that sorry ******* that took it. He deserved it . That saw was a workhorse, but , my God, it would kill you to run it, when you got it running. It was a art within itself to crank, once crank that day, it would run, but let it sit overnight. The next morning you had get to a crankin' about a hour before you planed on cutting ..... I bet that thief is still cussing himself for that stunt !!!!</P>


That give me a excuse to go get a husky. Didn't know how blessed I was over that person stealing my old saw.... Saws have come a long way !!!</P>
 
I'm a big fan of Stihl and have 3 of them.

I'm on a campaign to reduce the number of times I handle the wood. In the past I would:
1) Cut and split, throwing into trailer
2) Move from trailer to rack
3) When time to burn, throw in trailer to move to garage rack
4) Unload from trailer to garage rack

So I would handle each pice of wood 4 times.

I built pallet forks for the 3pt of tractor (loader forks don't have the capacity). Purchased about a dozen pallet boxes. Basically a steel pallet with a wire cage about 4 ft tall. Cut out 1 side to load wood into. Now I split the wood directly into the pallet cage and then sit the pallet on my outside pallet rack. When time to burn, I just pick them up and sit them in the garage. For my father will low clearance garage door we built 2 carts that the pallet cages sit on so we can sit them down and roll them into position.

This reduced the handling from 4 to 1 time. Thus making by back a LOT happier.

As for the RTV, depending on the wood location sometimes I split into the RTV and then take it to the cage.

Each cage can hold about 1000 lbs of wood (about the lift capacity of the tractor).

Anyway, Does it have a rear gate? Why the high steel in the back? Feel like making another?

The high steel in the back is a ladder rack or when I go out to my lumber pile to bring a few pieces back to the shop. It has no gate other than what is on the RTV box. How far would I have to ship another?</P>
 
We got another 8 inches of snow last night. I spent 2 hours plowing with thetractor this morning. Just another day in the life of an old retire guy.
 
When I bought the tracks I ask the man from Soucy if they were made for snow or for bare ground and he said both.So there you go TG make an excuse to the wife as to why you just have to have them. I have gone from snow to mud to bare blacktop road and they just keep on trucking. But bear in mind that you will loose 30% of your top speed.

While I have never seen a V8 powered saw used, I have been to several woodsmans field day and seen some that looked to be powered by a 2 strokemotorcylce engine. Them babys have a tuned exhaust and they will hum. Also they are a one man saw.</P>[/quote]
 
<font size="2">I run Stihl's. I've got a 009, MS280, MS441 and MS660. Bars range from 16" to 36" with a couple of extras. I have sold about 30 cord so far this year and have about 15 cut and split so far for next season.

I basically cut everything off a 200 acre farm of the in-laws and haul as much as I can fit in the RTV per trip. Sometimes I load a 5x10 trailer full and pull it too.

My saws are all ported by me, except the 009. Here's a link to some videos of mine and a 361 of my buddies. His is stock except for a modded muffler.

Shooting, reloading both shot shell,rifle and pistol,. Busting a few clays when I can get the wife to trip the thrower. Gardening, blueberries and veggies. Hunting which by fall any work not done has to wait until after hunting season. Woodworking, built my own home and most everything in it.Welding, repairing and building new. Oh and TG did I mention making maple syrup which will start in about a month. I don't do grocery shopping, no, no how. Vension is all I need.
